Roxcena Deeds, 90, Ozark, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 in Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar. She was born Monday, Dec. 26, 1910 in Springfield, the daughter of Newt and Grace (Monroe) Farmer. In 1928, Roxcena married Harold Brownfield and to this union three children were born; James David, Robert and Joann. In 1941 she married Wilbur Deeds and this union was blessed with one son, Douglas. Roxcena was a beloved wife and mother who enjoyed her family and her home, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ozark. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilbur; one daughter, Joann; one son, Douglas; three brothers and two sisters. Surviving are two sons, James D. Brownfield and wife Ruth, Wheatland, Mo. and Robert Brownfield, Nevada; one sister, Dede and husband Clifford Flood, Ozark; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Ozark City Cemetery under the care of Harris Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Rev. Troy Rhoden officiating. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ozark.

Funeral services for Trellis E. Deeds, 66, of Springfield, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Harris Chapel, Ozark. Burial was in Ozark Cemetery. A native of Chadwick, Mr. Deeds had moved to Kansas as a young man, He had been employed by Armour & Company until moving to Springfield five years ago, He died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday in St. John’s Hospital after an illness of several weeks. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Hedrick, Springfield and Mrs. Alma Fletcher, Wichita, Kan.

Wilbur Eugene Deeds, 82, Ozark died at 7:20 a.m. Friday in Cox Medical Center South. He was born Aug. 14, 1910, the son of John and Emma Deeds. He was a graduate of Ozark High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University. He moved to Los Angeles, Calif and was employed by Interstate Bakeries in 1937 and held the position of Divisional Production Manager until his retirement in 1975. He married Roxcena Farmer. After his retirement, they moved back to Ozark. He was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Emma Deeds, a son, John Douglas Deeds and a sister, Mrs. Irene Lewis. Survivors include his wife, Roxcene Deeds of the home; two step-sons, J. D. Brownfield and his wife Ruth, Wheatland and Robert Lee Brownfield, Canyon City, Calif; six grandchildren, Terrie Lynn Smith, Todd Douglas Deeds, Trista Sue Deeds, Tera Jean Deeds, James Howard Brownfield, Laura Lee Brownfield; and five great grandchildren. Services were held Monday, Nov. 2 in Ozark City Cemetery under direction of Harris Colonial Chapel, with the Revs, Tony Rhoden and David Howard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Funeral services for William C. Deeds, 80 who died suddenly Friday evening, April 25 at his home west of Ozark, were held Sunday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chaffin Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Vance officiating. Interment was in the mausoleum of Ozark Cemetery under direction of Chaffin. Mr. Deeds was born two miles south of Ozark and with the exception of ten years in Springfield, spent his entire life in and near Ozark. He was highly successful farmer and stockman. He suffered a heart attack five years ago but although largely confined to his home he continued to manage his extensive farming and business interests, with the assistance of his wife and daughter. He was a member of the Ozark Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Amy Deeds; one daughter, Miss Carolyn Deeds, presently employed as a teacher at Lamar; one brother, Edward F. Deeds of Ozark; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Zeta Deeds, 82, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gratz King of Clever after a lingering illness. Mrs. Deeds had been a resident of the Clever community for the past 46 years. She was a member of the Clever Baptist Church. Survivors are the daughter, Mrs. King; one son, Sidney of Tulsa; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Belle Hefner of  Palmyra, Va. and seven great grandchildren. Carole Joyce Deer, age 61, formerly of Derby, Kansas, walked into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 14, 1999. She was born December 25, 1937 in Wichita, Kansas and was the daughter of Hadley H. and Lola Mae (Moon) Creekmore. On May 23, 1958 she entered into marriage with Grover Charles "Chuck" Deer, Jr. Who preceded her in death in 1993. Carole was an active member of the Ozark United Methodist Church. Survivors include: three children, Curtis Allen Deer of Doraville, Georgia, Dale Gene Deer and his wife Sheri of Wichita, Kansas and Vickie Joyce Bunch and her husband Bob of Marysville, Washington; a daughter-in-law, Eldonna Deer of Doraville, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Anthony "Toney" Deer and his wife Misty, Gabriel Deer, Erick Bunch, Nathaniel Deer, Bradley Bunch, Israel Deer, Christopher Deer and Orion Deer; a great-granddaughter, Julianna Joyce Deer; three brothers, Ronald, Darryl and Dewayne Creekmore; a sister, Brenda Creekmore; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Sally Deer, Virginia Black, Frank Burnett and Bonnie Culpepper; and her church family at Ozark United Methodist Church. Chuck Deer, 56, Ozark, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1993 at St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield. He was born March 2, 1937 at Napton, the son of Grover Charles Deer Sr. and Virginia Sprigg Deer. He served his country in the U.S. Navy On May 23, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carol Joyce Creekmore. He served on the City Council in Derby, Kan. He was a member of Civil War Roundtable. Before becoming a Realtor for Carol Jones in Ozark, he worked as construction supervisor for Killian Construction Company. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ozark where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board. Pam “P.J.” Deering, age 45, Sparta, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2000 at the University of St. Louis Medical Center. Pam was born May 16, 1954 in Mt. Home, AR. the daughter of Don and Betty Alman. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ozark and active in many groups and organizations including the MidAmerica Transplant Support Group, Friends of Christian County Library and Cox Hospital Volunteers. Survivors include her husband, Gary Deering, Sparta; her parents, Don and Betty Alman, Mt. Home AR.; three brothers, Roger Alman, Ronnie Alman and Robert Alman, all of Arkansas; and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Alta Potter Lawson, former Ozark resident, died Thursday, August 17, at her home in Los Angeles, Calif. She was 59 years old. Mrs. Lawson was born February 15, 1891, the daughter of C.C. and Mary Potter. In 1914 she was married to N.B. Lawson, who preceded her in death eight years ago. Mrs. Lawson moved to Los Angeles following her husband’s death. She was a member of the Christian Church at Sparta. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. W.C. Forgey and Mrs. Bill Reed; a niece, Mrs. Milburn Bilyeu, and a nephew, Billy Forgey, all of Ozark. Funeral services were held in the Chaffin Funeral Home in Ozark Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. R.F. Musgrave officiating. Burial was in the Linden cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Forgey, Milburn Bilyeu, Fred Galloway, John Fondren, John Lawson, and Glen Lawson.

Mrs. Clifford Melton received word last week that her nephew, Burl Deffenderfer, 63, had died in Veteran’s Hospital, Long Beach, Calif. following an emergency operation. Burial was Feb. 26 in Veteran’s Cemetery, Riverside, Calif. Burl is survived by a daughter, Susan Newser; one grandson, Brian Newser; five sisters, Louise Nichols, Freda Bubier, Fern Binell, Dorothy Jones, and Eva McKenna; and two brothers, Harold and Don Deffenderfer.

F.T. “Tom” Deffenderfer, age 80, of Ozark, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2002 in Cox South, Springfield. He was born July 20, 1922 on the farm where he continued to live throughout his life. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 2, 1967, he and his wife, Mary Anne Simkins were married. The Deffenderfer family welcomed foster children into their home for many years. A farmer, Mr. Deffenderfer raised Registered Shorthorn cattle, showing them for many years. He was recently named Missouri Shorthorn Breeder of the Year. He also was employed by the Farm Service Agency for 40 years. He was active in community service, serving as 4-H Beef Leader, was a board member of M.F.A., served on the Christian County Fair Board, and was a member of the Ozark V.F.W. He became a member of Selmore Christian Church at a young age, where he had served as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a Gideon and was a member of the Christian County Men’s Fellowship. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Susan Jackson and her husband, Kevin, Ozark; three grandchildren, Dustin, Cody and Jennifer DeVore; a sister, Helen Jernigan, Springfield; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. His parents preceded him in death as well as a brother, Winford Deffenderfer, and a sister, Mable Janette Rahm. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Selmore Christian Church with Rev. Mark Evans and Rev. Neal Grubaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Selmore Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Genevieve Deffenderfer, 75, Ozark, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. l, 1990 in Primrose Place, Springfield, Deffenderfer, a member of Selmore Christian Church, was born Nov. 18, 1915 in Ozark County to William and Martha Lofton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Winford Deffenderfer; a son, Johnny Deffenderfer; her parents; three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a son, Ron; and four grandchildren, Scott, Andrea, Veronica, and Nicole. Services were Monday in Selmore Christian Church, Ozark. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery under direction of Harris Colonial Chapel.

He was a veteran of World War I and a lifelong resident of the Ozark community. Mr. Deffenderfer died Wednesday afternoon in Springfield MediCenter after a long illness. He was a charter member of Selmore Christian Church and was a lifelong resident of Christian County. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Deffender was a lifelong resident of the Nixa and Ozark communities. He was a farmer and area businessman, with interests in both Ozark and Nixa. He was president of Diversified Plastics, Nixa. He was a member of Friend Lodge, Ozark, About Ben Adhem Shrine, Springfield; Scottish Rite, Joplin and Christian County Shrine Club. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. John L. Deffenderfer, 43, of Springfield, died at 11:59 a.m. June 16 at St. John's Regional Health Center following a short illness. Services for Mr. Deffenderfer were held June 20 in the Harris Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Rev. Hosea Bilyeu officiating. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery. Mr. Deffenderfer was a counselor at Hickory Hills Junior High School in Springfield, where he was much loved by his students and fellow staff members. Surviving are Mr. Deffenderfer's wife, Ardell; a son, Scott; and a daughter, Andrea, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Deffenderfer; and a brother, Ron Deffenderfer. Memorial contributions are suggested to the John L. Deffenderfer Scholarship Fund c/o the Metropolitan National Bank, Springfield.

Joyce Lorene Deffenderfer, age 68, Ozark, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010. She was born March 31, 1942 in Springfield, the daughter of Elgie T. and Vivian (Richardson) Rhea.

Survivors include three sons, Dwight Deffenderfer and Jim Holton, Springfield, Justin Duane Deffenderfer, Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Alan and Olivia Deffenderfer, Havre de Grace, Maryland; three grandchildren, Sheila Mari Arlt-Deffenderfer, Jacob Dale Deffenderfer and Shiloh Michelle Deffenderfer; and three great grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Oren Dale Deffenderfer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Reverend Calvin Maberry officiating. Burial will follow in Selmore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.

Mary Anne Deffenderfer, 75, died Monday, September 29, at Riverview Manor in Ozark, Missouri. She was born September 24, 1933, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a daughter of George Harold and Katherine Bird Simkins. Mrs. Deffenderfer graduated from Rogers High School, Rogers, Arkansas, in 1952. She graduated from the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught in schools in Wyoming, Arkansas, and Missouri. She married F. T. "Tom" Deffenderfer in June 1966. They lived on the family farm near Ozark and raised shorthorn cattle until his death in 2002. Mrs. Deffenderfer is survived by a daughter, Susan Jackson, and her husband Kevin of Ozark; a granddaughter, Jenifer DeVore of Ozark; two grandsons, Dustin DeVore of Strafford and Cody DeVore, who is serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq. Other survivors include her twin sister, Janice Frazier of Jefferson City; four half-sisters, Helen Uher, Dolly Freeman, and Nellie Hawkins of Coshocton, Ohio, and Clara Shearn of Zanesville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Alice Anne Simkins of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Helen Jernigan of Springfield. She was predeceased by a brother, George Simkins; three half-brothers, Paul Simkins, Harold Simkins, and Donald Simkins; and a half-sister, Alice Bell. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Deffenderfer, 90, who died Monday, Oct. 20, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Schupbach in Ozark, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Chaffin Funeral Chapel with Rev. R. E. Musgrave officiating. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery under direction of Chaffin. Mrs. Deffenderfer was born in Nixa, the daughter of a pioneer Christian County couple, Abraham and Margaret Payne.. She lived her entire life here and was originally a member of the Highlandville Christian Church. She later moved her membership to the Selmore Christian Church where she was active and faithful member until her death. Her husband,  Thomas S. Deffenderfer, preceded her in death as did four children, Fred and Seth Deffenderfer, Mrs. Grace Tindle and Mrs. Pauline Kessinger. She was a five generation mother and leaves over 100 descendants. Survivors include three sons, Henry Deffenderfer and Horace Deffenderfer,. both of route 1, Ozark and Glen Deffenderfer of Indio, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Schupbach and Mrs. Agnes Melton, both of Ozark and one brother, Ralph Payne of Ozark.

Oren Dale Deffenderfer died on March 31, 2005, in Cox South, Springfield. He was born near Ozark on September 16, 1941, on the farm where he continued to live throughout his life. On September 27, 1959, he and Joyce Wise were united in marriage. He was a member of Ozark Friend Masonic Lodge #352 A.F. & A.M. Survivors include: his wife, Joyce; three sons, Dwight of Springfield, Justin Duane of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Alan of Los Angeles, California; four sisters, Cleta Baldwin of Sun City, California, Onita Slaght and Jane Lee, both of Anaheim, California, and Mina Handy of Ozark; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Preceding him in death were his parents, Horace and Blanche Deffenderfer; two brothers, Rex and Wayne; and three sisters, Betty Kelsey, Juanita Dean and Donna Head. A graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, in Selmore Cemetery, south of Ozark, with Pastor Tommy Bilyeu officiating. Masonic rites will be presented by Bruce Trammell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Memorials may be made to Selmore Cemetery or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Orval Winford Deffenderfer, 76, Ozark died Friday, March 16, 1990, in Primrose Place, Springfield. He was born March 24, 1990, in Christian County, to Henry and Virgie Deffenderfer. On July 15, 1938, he married Genevieve Loftin. He was a retired farmer and a member of Selmore Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Johnny Deffenderfer. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; a son, Ron, Springfield; a brother, Tom, Ozark; a sister, Helen Jernigan, Springfield, and four grandchildren, Scott, Andrea, Veronica and Nicole Deffenderfer. Services were Monday in Selmore Christian Church with the Rev. Faust Matthews and Dr. Emory Elmore officiating. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery under the direction of Harris Colonial Chapel.

Seth Thomas Deffenderfer, son of T. S. and Mary J. Deffenderfer was born June 22, 1896, departed this life August 1, 1921, aged 25 years, 1 month and 9 days. He was converted 8 years ago under the preaching of Thomas S. Wilson and united with the Christian church at Selmore, where he was a member at the time of his death. He was married to Wilburn Forgey April 17, 1920. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, mother, four sisters and four brothers, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

T. S. Diffenderfer an old and highly respected citizen living about 8 miles south of Ozark, died rather unexpected to his acquaintances in Ozark, at his home last Saturday afternoon about 5 o’clock. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon conducted by Finley Lodge, No. 296, I.O.O.F. of Ozark in which he was a member since December 21, 1904. Interment was in the Selmore cemetery where a very large crowd had collected to pay their last respects. Mr. Diffenderfer was about 56 years old and leaves a widow and nine children, four daughters and five sons, to mourn his departure, besides his many friends in this town and in his neighborhood.

[first part missing] south of Ozark on Saturday, November 7, 1914, death coming as a result of a stroke of paralysis suffered a few days previously. On Sunday afternoon a very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends conveyed his body to Selmore, where religious services were conducted in the church by Rev. B. Frank West, after which the body of our brother Diffenderfer was laid to rest in the Selmore cemetery, the ceremonies of our lodge burial being conducted by Past Grand Fred Barrett and Noble Grand, assisted by Past Grand Charles E. Reid as Chaplain, a large number of members of the Order from Ozark, Highlandville and other places being present. Resolved, That we extend our sympathy and fraternal condolence to the bereaved widow and children and assure them that we will cherish the memory of Bro. Diffenderfer in like manner as they do, that we will miss him as they do, and that we hope to meet him and them in that Grand Lodge above where the bonds of fellowship will be complete and there will be no more parting, Resolved, That this tribute be spread upon our Lodge record, copies furnished to the Ozark papers for publication, and copies sent to the family of our deceased brother, and that the members of this lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for a period of thirty days and our lodge charter be appropriately draped.  Chas. OZARK - Mrs. Virgia Deffenderfer, 81, of Route 2, Ozark died Monday evening at her home following a long illness. A lifelong resident of Christian County, she was a member of the Selmore Christian Church. Surviving are her husband, Henry; two sons, Tom and Winford, both of Ozark; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Jernigan, Route 2, Ozark and Mrs. Mabel Rahm, Concordia; three sisters, Mrs. Effa Rowden and Mrs. Lura Wolfe, both of Springfield and Mrs. Velma Sharp, McClave, Colo. and a step-sister, Mrs. Frank Payne, Ozark and six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Arrangements were held announced by Adams of Ozark.

Wayne Seth Deffenderfer, 66, Orange, Calif., died June 20, 2003, of cancer. He was born Sept. 14, 1936, to Horace and Blanche Harp Deffenderfer. He attended Ozark schools, graduating in 1954. On Aug. 10, 1957, he married Kathy Wright. They made their home in California where he was employed by Anaheim Truck and Transfer. Survivors include his wife, Kathy; two sons, Steven, Bandera, Texas, and Bryan, Odessa, Texas; daughters Diane, Burlington, Wash., and Debby, San Clemente, Calif.; three granddaughters; one grandson; one brother; four sisters and several nieces, nephew, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and three sisters. Services were held at 10 a.m. June 25 in Fair Haven Mortuary in Santa Ana, Calif.

Constance J. "Connie" DeForest, 73, Nixa, Mo., passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005, at 4:49 p.m. in Cox Health System South. She was born September 27, 1931, to Charles and Marie Gamache Laflin in Woonsocket, R.I., where she was raised and attended school. Connie worked for 21 years in L.A., Calif., for a Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance Agency and Brokerage before moving to Granby, Colo. She had resided in Springfield since 1988. Connie is survived by her husband Richard S. DeForest; four sons, William, Gary, and Mark Parenti, and Bryon Villa; two step-daughters, Christine Crump, and Laurie Thurston; brother Charles Laflin; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Monday, February 7, 2005, at 7 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with Dr. Gary D. Stratman officiating.

Georgia True Chastain-DeGraffenreid, 87, Springfield, Missouri departed this life peacefully in her home, Saturday, August 13, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 17, 1924 in Clever, Missouri to Celia "Alice" (Leonard) and William McDonald Chastain. She was a graduate of Clever High School and Draughon Business College. Georgia worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Springfield, Missouri for 31 years and retired as switchboard operator supervisor. She was a member of the Southwestern Bell Pioneer Club and Wesley United Methodist Church. On April 24, 1951, she married Richard "Dick" Dean DeGraffenreid at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; five brothers, Berlie, William, Woodrow, Truman, Herman; and one sister, Gnett (Wilkins); two half-brothers, Luther and Earl; and two half-sisters, Minnie (Davis) and Grace (Maples). She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ivon (King) Chastain and Alma (DeGraffenreid) Slack, both of Springfield; nieces and nephews, Janice (DeGraffenreid) Miller of Springfield, Shelia (Mann) and Thomas Selvidge of Springfield, Linda (Chastain) and Dale Sporleder of Carmel, Indiana, Carolyn (Chastain) and David Wampler of Springfield, Shirley (Mann) and Bonnie Wheeler of Springfield, Danny and Linda (David) Chastain of Springfield, Roy and Laura (F. Mayen) Chastain of Yelm, Washington, Steve and Susanne (Baker) Chastain of Springfield, and Dr. Glenn and Beverly (Vestal) DeGraffenreid of Nixa; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia. He had moved to Ozark 24 years ago from West Plains and was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the 1902 Aviation Engineers Battalion. He was a former parts manager for Will Fisher Olds, and was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Doris; one son, Russell, of the home; one daughter, Debbie Estes, Rochester, Minn.; one brother, Charles, West Plains; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Dwayne Bray officiated, and burial was under direction of Harris. The child died at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday shortly after birth at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Helen Irene Deke, 71, Brookfield, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 1994 at Boone Health Center in Columbia. She was born July 24, 1922 in Ozark, the daughter of Lee and Ina (Doran) Bingham. She and Roy L. Deke were married on Jan. 1, 1944. Mrs. Deke was a wholesale distributor with her husband and belonged to the Park Baptist Church where she was the general secretary for the Sunday School. she also belonged to the Mission Prayer Group, TL Sunday School Class and the Linn County Bowling Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a grandson, Jeffrey Deke. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carolyn Deke, Ozark, Robert and Vickie Deke, Brookfield, and Thomas and Diane Deke, Linneus; seven grandchildren, Shannon Deke, Tammy Deke, Dusti Deke, Samantha Deke, and Jessica Deke; three great-grandchildren, Trey and Matt Sportsman and Morgan Deke; a brother, Albert Bingham, Laclede; three sisters, Mary Kissee, Virginia Wells, and Jeanne Sleeth, all of Ozark, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Stevens and the Rev. Martin Barker officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Services for Roy L. Deke, 69, Brookfield, formerly of Springfield, were held March 30 at Wright Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth G. Kelley officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Deke died March 17 at Pershing Hospital in Brookfield following a long illness. Survivors include his wife, Helen; three sons, James, Ozark, Robert, Brookfield, and Thomas, Linneus; three brothers, Robert, Ohiowa, Neb., Gilbert, DeWitt, Neb. and Arnold, Norfolk, Neb. and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Meyer, Emma and Mrs. Elna Shakenberg, Independence. Mr. Deke married the former Helen Bingham, of Ozark, on Jan. 1, 1944.

Donald Lee DeLaPorte Sr., 69, of Springfield, died Saturday, January 27, 2007, in Maranatha Village, Springfield. Don was united in marriage to Shirley Donna Jean Moss and to this union five children were born. He was a member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church and in his spare time he liked to hunt and fish. For 35 years he owned and operated the DeLaPorte Construction Company in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley, on October 24, 2005; a son, Donald Lee DeLaPorte Jr.; and a brother Dale. Survivors include three daughters, Connie Miller and husband, Lyle, of Mansfield, Cathy Lovell, of Nixa, and Cindy Silkey and husband Larry, of Marshfield; a son, David DeLaPorte and wife, Amy, of Nixa; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Doris Weiss and husband, Donnie, of Fulton. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Donald Lee DeLaPorte, 69, of Springfield, Missouri, died on Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Maranatha Nursing Home in Springfield, Missouri. His daughter, Connie Frost, admitted him to Maranatha in August 2006 after the death of his wife. His cause of death is unknown at this time. Don was born on March 10, 1937, in Hannibal, Missouri, to Robert and Virginia DeLaPorte. He was married to Shirley DeLaPorte on January 26, 1957, in Hannibal, Missouri. Don was a police officer and building contractor in Hannibal, Missouri before moving to the Springfield area in 1971. He was a building contractor in Springfield for 35 years. He devoted his life to his family and enjoyed family gatherings and helping his children. He was a wonderful father, husband, and poppy, admired by his family. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield and was a faithful member of the church choir. He also liked to hunt, fish and spend time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his three daughters, Cinde Silkey and husband Larry, of Marshfield, Missouri; Connie Frost of Mansfield, Missouri; Cathie Lovell and husband Ken, of Nixa, Missouri; one son, David DeLaPorte and wife Amy, of Ozark, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Emily Prestidge, Travis Prestidge, Joshua Frost, Brandon Frost, Ashley DeLaPorte Stone, Aubrey DeLaPorte, Kylie DeLaPorte, Brittany DeLaPorte, Kevin Lovell, and David Lovell; two great-grandchildren Viggo Prestidge-Isenberger, and Brandy Frost; one sister, Doris Weiss and husband, Donnie, Fulton, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley DeLaPorte on 10-24-05 and his son, Donald DeLaPorte Jr. On 5-8-00 and his brother, Dale DeLaPorte on 11-3-06. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. February 3, 2007, in Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Missouri.

Shirley Donna Jean DeLaPorte, 65, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Hannibal, Mo., died at 6 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2005, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal. Memorial services will be held at a later date. The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Mo., is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. DeLaPorte was born January 4, 1940, in Hannibal, Mo., to Thomas and Alice Randall Moss. She was married to Donald Lee DeLaPorte, Sr., on January 26, 1956, in Hannibal, Mo. He survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Cindy Silkey of Marshfield, Mo., Connie Frost of Mansfield, Mo., and Cathy Lovell of Nixa, Mo.; one son, David DeLaPorte, of Ozark, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Emily Prestidge, Travis Prestidge, Joshua Frost, Brandon Frost, Ashley DeLaPorte, Aubrey DeLaPorte, Kylie DeLaPorte, and Brittany DeLaPorte. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald Lee DeLaPorte, Jr.; two brothers; and one sister. Mrs. DeLaPorte was a homemaker. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo. She enjoyed taking care of people and volunteering her time.
