Accidental shot by brother while hunting last week near Springfield -- father of boy lives near Selmore, this county.

The Springfield papers last week told of  the accidental shooting of Joseph Kindrick, 27, by his brother, Mitchell, while the boys were hunting. The report  of the tragedy in the Springfield papers was as follows -- Joseph H. Kindrick, 37, employee of the Stigall Construction company, who lived at 2700 Pierce Ave., Springfield, was almost instantly killed at 4:30 last Wednesday afternoon when he was accidentally shot in the back by his brother, Mitchell Kindrick, as they were hunting on the Ed W. Appleby farm, six miles northeast of Fair Grove on U.S. Highway 65. Dr. Murray C. Stone, Greene county coroner, viewed the body, and made a preliminary investigation of the tragedy last night. He said that an inquest probably will not be necessary. However, he will investigate the case more thoroughly today. The brothers had gone during the day to the home of their brother in law, Ben Hastings, located only about 200 yards from the point where the shooting occurred, with the idea of doing some rabbit hunting. They has gone only a few paces after climbing over a fence to the Appleby farms where the tragic affair occurred. According to the story told Dr. Stone, Mitchell was attempting to light his pipe when he tripped over a telephone line which had been brought down by the recent storm, causing him to lurch forward and discharge the right barrel of a 12-gauge, double-barrel shotgun he was carrying. “Where am I shot?” exclaimed Joseph, falling backward into his brother’s arms and dying before he could say anything else. The charge of No. 4 shot made a wound a little larger than a half dollar nearly in the middle of his back. Mitchell Kendrick laid the body on the ground and ran to the Hastings house where he told his brother’s wife and Mrs. Hastings of what had happened. The three of them carried the body to the home. Going to the spot where the shooting occurred, Dr. Stone found both guns where the brothers had dropped them. Nearby was a dead rabbit which one of them had shot. Joseph had carried a 16-gauge single barrel shotgun. Dr. Stone was informed that Mitchell had gone to Ozark to get his father, Thomas R. Kendrick. He lives with his father there.
