Former resident of near Rogersville dies Saturday of injuries received in fall from his barn loft at his home near Stotts City-was brother of B.C. Klepper of this city-Funeral held Tuesday. William Mallory Klepper residing near Stotts City died t the Springfield Baptist hospital Saturday, the result of injuries sustained Friday in a fall from the loft of his barn while throwing feed to cattle. Mr. Klepper was born and reared near Rogersville and was a brother of B.C. Klepper was born and reared near Rogersville and was a brother of B.C. Klepper of Ozark. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Harmony Baptist church with Rev. A.S. Hanks and Rev. Luther McReynolds officiating. Burial was made in the Smith cemetery. K.K. Kelly of Seymour was in charge as funeral director. John M. Pile read the following obituary and eulogy: William Mallory Klepper was born Dec. 24, 1881, the son of Robert M. Klepper and Sarah E. Smith. He departed this life on Feb. 23, 1935, aged 53 years and 2 months, his death being the result of injuries sustained in a fall from the loft of his barn at his home near Stotts City. He was united in marriage on March 6, 1904, to Stella Miller. To this union three children were born, two of whom, with the mother, survive. They are Ruth, aged 23, and Ted, aged 15. The third child, Wade, passed away at the age of two years. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Sarah E. Klepper of Rogersville, two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Hodgin and Mrs. Etta Miller, both of Rogersville, six brothers, Sterling E., James A., and Ebb, all of Rogersville, T.H. of Keyport, Wash., and John F. of Carrouthers, Calif., and B.C. of Ozark, together with a host of other relatives and friends. He was born near Rogersville where he grew to manhood. About 10 years ago he professed his faith in his Master and united with the Harmony Baptist church. About four years ago he moved to near Stotts City. The above are but the basic facts of a man’s life. In them is nothing that would picture to you the fact that William Mallory Klepper was more, in the house of flesh and bone that his spirit inhabited, than the common run of man. It would be unfair, unjust and unkind to the memory of this outstanding son, husband, father, brother, kinsman and friend, should we abbreviate this obituary with the mere statements that he was born and lived and died and is today buried. I stand here before you to read this obituary, not because of an intimate relationship with him who lies before us in the throes of death, but because the affectionate heart of a brother bleeds with anguish and sorrow and hopes that from these words there might be plucked some sweetness of soothing consolation. We realize that nothing we shall say shall reach the ear of him of whom we speak. And it need not that it should. We build not a eulogy fitting to his character, in the hope that he in death might be made any bigger or more noble. We build this eulogy to his life in the hope that what is here said might burn itself on the memory of those who hear, to the end that the life of William Mallory Klepper shall be remembered until they too are swallowed up by death and that his noble memory shall be a guiding star and inspiration for them to live as he lived. True greatness is not always builded by an acknowledgement from the world. William Malory Klepper in his love for his home and his loved ones, his affection for those of kindred birth, and his uncompromising devotion to his friends, has builded for his memory a greatness unexcelled in the annals of man. The very fact that here today is assembled a large concourse of people declares the fact that there was something about him of whom we speak which magnified him with his fellow men. A dream of happiness often turns quickly to a remembrance of sadness. We see the dawn of a new day as the rising sun casts its rays over the fleecy clouds, changing them into flying ribbons of a golden hue, only to turn and see the huge cloud come to blight the hopes of a perfect day. And so comes the messenger of Death. But though the visit of William Mallory Klepper was unfinished, those who mourn have a beautiful treasure to possess until eternity -- it is the treasure that the sacredness of his parenthood has been theirs; that they have felt the warmth of his hand as a brother and that he has heard and understood their hearts’ desire as companion and father. William Mallory Klepper seemed to understand the hearts of men and labored for their contentment and happiness just as the angel quiets the anxiety of a prepared soul. And now in closing I take the liberty of revamping the words of John Temple Graves when he spoke a eulogy to his friend, Hendry W. Grady. From what I have learned of William Mallory Klepper, well might they be used as a eulogy to him. If we would speak a eulogy that fills this day, let us build within the hearts he loved a monument tall as his kindly acts and as lasting as the he filled. No fire that can be kindled on the altars of our speech can relume the radiant spark that perished. No blaze in all our eulogy can burn beside the sunlight of his useful life. After all is said there can be nothing grander than such living. I have seen the light that gleamed at midnight from the headlight of some giant engine, rushing onward through the darkness, heedless of danger and fearless of peril, and I thought it was grand. I have seen the light come over the eastern hills in glory, driving the lazy darkness like mist before a sea-born gale, till every leaf and twig and blade of grass glittered in the myriad diamonds of the morning ray, and I thought it was grand. I have seen the lightning leap at midnight athwart the storm swept sky, shivering over chaotic clouds, mid howling winds, till the clouds and sky and shadow-haunted earth flashed into noonday splendor, and I thought it was grand. But the grandest thing, next to the radiance that flows from the Almighty’s throne is the light of a noble and a beautiful and a useful and a devoted life, wearing itself in tender benediction about the destinies of men and finding itself at last at home in the bosom of the everlasting God. Thus ends the life of William Mallory Klepper.
