Bray, Frank Cadmus 18 Jan 1866 - 16 Feb 1906 CCR 1 Mar 1906 p1
[Note: Son of Aaron & Ann (Wrightsman) Bray; married Anna E. Wilburn Russell 24 Jun 1872 - 18 Feb 1952]
Again the dark-winged messenger of death has visited our community and called one of out citizens home, which shows how weak and helpless is man to compare with the great God of all. Frank Bray, son of Aaron and Ann Bray, who were among the first pioneers of this country, Frank was the third child. He was born January 26th, 1866, and was always attentive and obedient to his father and mother. kind and generous to his brothers and sisters as well to his playmates, making all who knew him feel as if he were their friend which he was. Almost before he entered the threshold of life, he united with the Baptist church (1885) and lived a life worthy of commendation. As a citizen, a friend and a neighbor, there was none better and as a business man and a stock dealer, Frank had few equals. But, alas, the gloomy misfortunes of this life are over. Willing hearts and ready hands are always waiting to do anything in their power for him. But we are more fully persuaded to say and see that man appoints and God disappoints. It has been thy sad will, not ours, be done; for the Great God knows the best. So, Monday February the 19th, 1906 was the day set apart, the gates of the great beyond stood ajar, and the grim reaper with the scythe comes forth, the nurses stand back while the dark angel of death kneels at his bedside and whisper in his ears. I’ll row you over the tide. Then Frank Bray passes out of this life into the great beyond and is once more free from trouble and care. Frank leaves an aged father and mother, two brothers and six sisters and five children and friends to mourn his loss, but death has a sweet solemnity about it and in the words of the humble Nazarene, when he said, Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted, and I will say to those near and dear to Frank, that when your time shall come to step down to the side of the chilly stream of death and take a seat by the side of the boatman pale and as he rows you into the great beyond then and there at the Beautiful gate, you will see the smiling face of our friend, brother and child, waiting to welcome you home. “There is no death although we grieve When beautiful, familiar forms That we have learned to love are torn from our embracing arms. And ever near us, though unseen, The dear immortal spirits tread For all the boundless universe Is life there is no death. A Friend.
