PLANE CRASH KILLS SIX
Photo and Caption: Dennis Clinton, Coroner Dean Adams and Sheriff Buff Lamb discuss the plane crash near Boaz, west of Nixa, last Saturday which killed all six occupants. Icing was blamed for the mishap.
A twin engine plane from Battlecreek, Michigan crashed near Boaz, between Nixa and Clever Saturday, killing all six passengers. The plane hit the edge of a field and skidded into the timber. a two-feet deep hole in the ground where the plane first hit was evidence of the tremendous impact of the crash. FAA Investigations were summoned from Kansas City. Weather was too bad to fly, so the trip was made by car, arriving late Saturday night. A local farmer, George Wright. saw the plane just before the crash. He said the plane was in serious trouble and was weaving back and forth badly, and the engine was “sputtering”. This happened about 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Because the FAA officials were delayed, they allowed the bodies to be removed. Christian County Coroner Dean Dams identified the bodies as: Rev. Robert Brizendine, 46, his wife, Edith Mae, 42, Dexter, Michigan, Robert L. Sweezie, 42, his wife, C. Elizabeth, 39, from Hickory Corner, Mich., Terry DeVries, 40 and his wife, Lois Jane, 40 from Portage, Mich. An air controller at Kalamazoo, Mich, FAA said the plane left its Battle Creek base Friday and was on a flight plan to Joplin and was later to fly to Miami. A spokesman for the Joplin control tower said the aircraft left the airport Saturday in what he termed “bad weather.” An air controller at Springfield Municipal Airport said the radar facility there had radio contact with the pilot who said he was headed back to Springfield because of ice buildup on the plane’s wings. Authorities at the scene said the wings were covered with a half inch of sleet and ice. Debris from the white and green plane was confined to a small radius. One occupant of the plane, a man,. was thrown clear, but the other bodied remained buried in the rubble. Attendants from Meadors Ambulance Service, Republic, extricated the bodies. They were later taken to Adams Funeral Home in Ozark.

Bob graduated from Pensacola High School in 1950, where he was a member of the Key Club, the Glee Club and editor of the school newspaper, The Tiger's Tail. He attended East Hill Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, and after seminary he served under the leadership and ministry of Rev. During their life, they expanded their ministry into foster care. Bob and Mary cared for several foster children over the years, and one, Charles M. Sigmund, later became their adopted son. The last several years of his life, God used him to minister to senior adults in nursing homes, as well as with Alzheimer patients. In 1997, Bob became the chaplain for the Baptist Home, Ozark, MO, and had never been happier as he loved and ministered to the residents. He was loved by all there and to them, he was their pastor.
