Age 16. Died Nov. 8, 1972

Just like the flowers that bloom in June, They fade away and died too soon.

Roy was a bud but one day in June. Now he has faded and gone too soon.

Sixteen years is a very short time to lose one so precious and fine.

You have left us all sick and sore. because your years could have been so much more.

You will keep us with memories we will keep dear in our heart.

Sadly missed by one and all, We lost our flower in the fall.

Grandma Rysted.

Widders, Carlyla 13 May 1951 - 26 Jul 1951  CCR 2 Aug 1951

[Note: Daughter of Carl & ? (Inman) Widders]

Mrs. Avadeen Cole, 16, of Nixa was killed last Thursday morning near Stockton, KS, when the car she was driving struck a bridge abutment. Also killed was her two-months old niece, Carlyla Widders, daughter of her sister who was in the car with Mrs. Cole. The baby’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Widders of Springfield were hospitalized at Hays, KS. A reconstruction of the crash by the highway patrol indicated that Mrs. Cole had taken the wheel in the early morning after her brother-in-law, who had been discharged from the service and was being returned home from Washington, D.C., had driven all night. The party had an early morning breakfast. Mr. Widders got into the back seat for a catchup sleep, and Mrs. Cole had been driving about 15 minutes when the accident occurred. She was proceeding at moderate speed and the theory was that she was blinded by the early sunlight and did not see the abutment. Bodies of the two victims were returned by plane to Springfield, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Roscoe Harding, pastor of Riverdale Baptist church, officiating. Burial was made in the McConnell cemetery near Nixa. In addition to her sister, Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband, Don, serving in the Navy. She and Mrs. Widders are the cousins of County Treasurer Russell McConnell.

J. P. Collier Dead - Old and Highly Respected Citizen of Christian County Died in Boston, Mass. - Remains Interred There

Monday morning, R. Neil Gray, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Collier, received a telegram from W. N. Collier at their Boston home where the son, W. N. Collier, is in the government employ as Supt. of construction of a new custom house at that place. All the old friends and neighbors very much regret to hear the news yet were not very much surprised as Mr. Collier was in very poor health when he and Mrs. Collier left here some two months ago to make their home in Boston with their son during the winter. It was felt at that time that the rigors of the New England climate would not agree with Mr. Collier’s feeble condition. Mr. Collier was a long time resident of Christian county having emigrated from Kentucky soon after the war, having served this county in several official capacities, the more important ones being the office of county treasurer and later as Probate Judge. He was one of the founders of the Methodist church of this place and always at his place of duty. He was about 71 years of age at the time of his death. We would be glad to give a more extended account of his useful and active career had we the facts at hand. The many friends of the family in Ozark will sympathize with the family and especially Mrs. Collier in this bereavement.

Tribute of Respect To the Memory of John P. Collier

To the Worshipful Master, Wardens and Brethren of Friend Lodge, A. F. & A. M. Your special committee appointed to draft a tribute of respect to memory of our deceased brother, Judge John Patrick Collier, beg leave to submit the following. John P. Collier became a member of Friend Lodge by initiation in the year 1894. He became at once imbued with the principles of the fraternity and was for many years a regular attendant and active worker, until failing health made it inconvenient for him to attend. He served the lodge as Junior Warden and as Secretary, rendering satisfactory service and attained some proficiency as a degree lecturer. He died at Chelsea, Massachusetts December 7, 1913 at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 22 days and was buried there by the Masonic fraternity. Resolved, That in the death of Brother Collier this lodge has lost a true and faithful member, the community an upright and useful citizen, and his family a devoted husband and father and that we his brethren will cherish the memory of his life and work among us and endeavor to imitate the example of devotion to the principles of our Order and his piety to the God whom we all worship. Resolved, That Friend Lodge extend fraternal thanks to the officers and members of the Robert Lash lodge and Star of Bethlehem lodge for the fraternal kindness exhibited by them in conducting appropriate Masonic burial services for our deceased brother; and that the Secretary be directed to forward printed copied of this resolution to the Secretaries of each of those lodges., Resolved, that our sympathies be tendered to the family of our brother, and copied of this tribute be furnished to them, and that this tribute be published in the Ozark papers.  Charles E.
