U. S. Marshals arrest Nixa murder suspect

Murder suspect Robert Bair, Jr. is in custody after a U. S. Marshals investigation led to his arrest at midnight July 14 at a Springfield residence

Bair, 27, was previously charged in Christian County with second-degree murder in connection with the January 2011 shooting death of Rex Hicks, 51, of nixa

The Southern Missouri Fugitive Task Force began the search for Bair July 13 following a request for assistance from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. The search for Bair took investigators to several residences in Polk, Stone, Christian and Greene Counties. Bair was ultimate located hiding at a residence near Madison Street and Southwest Avenue in Springfield where he was arrested without incident.

The Southern Missouri Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the U. S. Marshals, U. S. Department of Homeland Security - Homeland Security Investigations, Christian County Sheriff’s office, Greene county Sheriff’s office, as well as the Joplin Police Department. The task forces’ objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives and sexual predators. Last year, U. S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 90,800 state and local fugitives. Clearing about 117,600 state and local felony warrants.

Mrs. Sidney Hicks died Wednesday, July 25, at Sarasota, Fla. where she had made her home the past six years. She was born in Ozark Dec 29, 1901 to the late Mr. and Mrs. L. R.  Logan.  She went through grade school in Ozark and graduated from there in 1920 later attending State Teacher’s College in Springfield. She then taught in the Ozark Elementary school system until her marriage in 1925. After that, her home was in Maywood and Chicago, Ill. until she moved to Sarasota. Survivors are her husband, Sidney Hicks, a son, James Logan Hicks, five grandchildren and two brothers, Winford Logan of Aurora, Ill. and Malcolm Logan of Denver, Colo. Funeral services were at Maywood, Ill. Monday, July 30. Burial was near Aurora, Ill, Mr. Hicks returned this week to his home at 2313 Valencia Dr., Sarasota, Fla.

Robert E. Hicks, 82, of San Marcos, Texas, formerly of Palm Desert, Calif., died in San Marcos, Oct. 8, 2002. He was born in Springfield Nov. 19, 1919, to Clarence and Viola (Byerly) Hicks. The lifetime accomplishments of Robert E. Hicks are wide and varied. First and foremost, he was a devoted husband and father, always exhibiting patience and understanding in all things. Working diligently through many summers, he obtained a Doctorate Degree in Education from Missouri University. He went on to found the Junior College at The School of the Ozarks, currently known as College of the Ozarks. Leaving there in 1961, he went on to Fort Scott, Kan., and founded the Junior College there also and was very involved in legislative work for education. He is survived by his wife, Eva Aretta Davenport Hicks of San Marcos, Texas; son Terry Robert Hicks and wife, Sherry of Palm Desert, Calif.; daughter, Treena Donahue and husband, Andrew Burrell Jr. of Wimberly, Texas; brother, Norman Franklin Hicks of Palm Desert, Calif., Amber Burrell Jr. of Wimberly, Texas; brother, Norman Franklin Hicks and wife, Aileen of Ozark; grandchildren, Kristin and Mark Hicks of Palm Desert, Calif., Amber Pappas of Athens, Greece, Kimberly Coleman of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Heorhe Matthew Eblin of Bryan, Texas; and great-grandson, Taylor Coleman of Milwaukee, Wisc. Graveside Services were held Oct. 11, 2002, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Rocky Dean Hicks, age 55, of Ozark, passed away on a beautiful Sunday morning, May 29, 2005, in Gary, Ind. He was born March 16, 1950, in Ava, the son of Cecil Paul Hicks and Delores Evans Hicks. He graduated from Mountain Grove High School, and served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Rocky had been a truck driver for over 20 years. He was presently employed by Erickson Transport in Springfield. He was a great husband to his wife, Betty, and a loving father to his three sons, Justin Hicks of Paul's Valley, Okla., Jubal Hicks of Nixa, and Cody Hicks of Ozark. He is also survived by two brothers, Rex Hicks of Nixa, and Rick Hicks; a niece, Amanda Hicks; and a nephew, Austin Hicks. Rocky will never be forgotten. Although he is lost from our lives, he is not lost from our hearts. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Reverend Daren Roten officiating. Burial will follow in Hopedale Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home. "God love you and keep you until we meet again."

Services for Roy W. Hicks, 69, Nixa, were held Sept. 1 in Harris Funeral Chapel in Nixa with the Rev. Joseph Fahl officiating. Burial was in Delaware Cemetery. Mr. Hicks died Aug. 29 in his home after an illness of several months. Survivors include his wife. Lorrell; two sons, Clifford and Junior, both of Nixa; five grandchildren; a brother, Teddie, Republic; and two sisters, Mrs. Opal Aven, Lathrop, Calif.; and Mrs. Roxie McCracken, El Sobrante, Calif.

Word was received at Ozark Saturday of the death of Mrs. Sarah Caroline Hicks, at her home at Willard. Mrs. Hicks was 79 years of age and was the widow of the late Rev. W. McCord Hicks, who was one of the veteran Presbyterian ministers in the Ozarks country. Rev. Hicks filled the pulpit at the Ozark Presbyterian church for many years and here they had may acquaintances and friends. Mrs. Hicks is survived by two sons and three daughters, two brothers and two sisters, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. S.C. Inman pastor of the Willard Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was made in the Cave Springs cemetery.

Virginia Lee Hicks, 45, Springfield, passed away October 1, 2001 in Cox Medical Center South. She was born in Santa Anna California on Sept. 9, 1956, the daughter of Dallas Lee Hicks Sr. and the late Betty June Hicks. Virginia was preceded in death by her mother; a daughter, Stephanie Lynn Gant; and a brother, Dallas Lee Hicks II. She is survived by her children, Candice Ann Gant Hodge, Justin Wayne Goben, Nathaniel Roy Eisenhour, Illene Jean Montgomery, all of the home; her father, Dallas Lee Hicks Sr.; 3 sisters, Crystol Jo Malchose, Opal Mae Lasiter, Shirley Jean Hicks; 1 granddaughter; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Virginia was beloved by all. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2001, in Thieme Funeral Home, with burial in Jones Chastian Cemetery in Christian County.             Wilda Mae High, age 79 of Springfield, Mo, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 13, 1932 in Linn Creek, MO to Raymond and Dalilah Carroll. She married Charles Richard High in 1951, she was an RN and her hobbies were sewing, carving and scout leader. Wilda is preceded in death by her husband Charles R. High, parents, two sisters, June Tummons and Lucille Carroll, three grandchildren, Scotty Allen High, John Richard High and Tahlia Kristine High. She is survived by her children, Charles Robert High and Evon, James Richard and Theresa High, Joseph Allen and Tammy High, Kathy High, Carrie Ann High, 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, brother, Darrell and Wilda Carroll and a host of family and friends. W. F. Hicks, 62, of route 1, Clever, died at 11 a.m. yesterday after suffering a heart attack while returning home in his car from Brown Springs.  Mr. Hicks, a native of Tennessee, had complained of chest pains Saturday, relatives said.  He had been a resident of Clever 51 years.  Survivors are his wife, Lillie; three sons, Russell and Darrell of Clever, and Oren of Richmond, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Alma Harter and Mrs. Lura Harter, of Billings, and Mrs. Georgia Lee Roy of Clever; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Charles Hicks of Nixa, and one sister, Mrs. Nina Young of Lomita, Calif.  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Clever Baptist Church with burial in the Frazier Cemetery under direction of Harris of Clever.

Monday morning’s Springfield News carried the report of the death of Rev. W.M. Hicks, who passed away at his home in Willard on Sunday morning at 8:30. He was 80 years old and had served pastorates in the Presbyterian church at Ash Grove, Mount Vernon, Pilot Grove, Ozark, Bolivar, Willard, New Woodland Heights, and Cave Springs. Mr. Hicks was born May 4, 1850, in the Friendship church community, 15 miles northwest of Springfield. His parents were among the earliest residents of Greene county coming there from Tennessee. He was educated at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenn., where he was graduated in 1898. Besides his wife, Mrs. S.G. Hicks, he is survived by two sons, R.A. and E.M. Hicks of Kansas City and by three daughters, Mrs. Lois Prater of Kansas City; Mrs. Mabel Garris of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Mattie Cruise of Springfield. Eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive. The pallbearer for the funeral were E.F. Race, W.T. Race, D.F. Haun, O.D. Gillespie, J.O. Farmer and B.E. Staley. Flower bearers were Mrs. Isabel Cooper, Anna Belle Murray, Charlsie Fortner, Wilma Farmer, Cleo Gillespie, and Florence Staley. Interment was made in the Cave Springs cemetery in charge of the Greenwade funeral home of Willard.

Burial was in Fairview Cemetery near Sparta. Mrs. Higginbotham died Friday evening in Harrisburg, Pa. after a short illness. She was a former resident of Sparta and Fair View and a member of Fair View Baptist Church, Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Julia Burger., Lehigh Heights, Fla. and Mrs. Irene Green, Harrisburg,. Robert C. Higginbotham, age 43, of Enid Oklahoma passed away on November 9, 2000 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Mr. Higginbotham was born on April 12, 1957 in Orange County, California. He had made his residence in Brea California until 1990 when he relocated to Nixa, Mo. In 1998 he moved to Oklahoma. Mr. Higginbotham had been a long haul truck driver for 15 years. He had owned a locksmith business in California, and in Nixa. He was proprietor of an Auto Detail Shop known as "Bid Daddy's" in Nixa for three years. Mr. Higginbotham was a man with a giving spirit. His last request was carried out when his desire to be a multiple organ donor was honored. "He will be sadly missed," said Jerry Jarrell, one of his many friends. Survivors include: His wife, Angela Caldwell of Enid, Oklahoma; three daughters, Miranda Patricia Higginbotham of San Antonio, Texas, Savannah Lynn Higginbotham, and Mary Higginbotham, both of Highlandville, Mo.; his father, Raymond Higginbotham of Santa Ana, California; his mother, Patricia Ledbetter of Enid, Oklahoma; four brothers, Randy Higginbotham of Pahrump, Nevada, David Lattin of Enid, Oklahoma, Chris Higginbotham of Arkansas, Nick Klein of Walla Walla, Washington, Dale KIein of Bellingham, Washington; two sisters, Melody Sonnier of Santa Ana, California, Linda Higginbotham of Tacoma, Washington; four stepsisters, one stepbrother, 2 grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Higginbotham was preceded in death by one son, Larry, and both his maternal and paternal grandparents. A private memorial service at the James River Assembly of God Church in Springfield, Mo. was being planned. The family has request that all memorial contributions be sent to the C.C.U. Mrs. Dorothy Lorraine Higgins, 46 of Strafford, were held Tuesday in Wayside Funeral Chapel in Strafford with the Rev. Bernie Wingo officiating. Burial was in Springfield National Cemetery. Mrs. Higgins died Sunday at Cox Medical Center after a long illness. Surviving besides her husband Dayle are a daughter and two sons, Gary of Rogersville and Dana of Strafford.

Memorial services for Marguerite Green Higgins, 69, Santa Cruz, Calif, were held Sunday at Smyrna Baptist Church, Ozark, with the Rev. Jim Jefferies officiating, Local arrangements were under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ozark. Mrs. Higgins died April 16 after a long illness. She was a native of Ozark where she was a member of Smyrna Church. She then moved to Festus, Mo where she became a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. One year ago, she moved to Santa Cruz. Survivors include one brother, Calvin Waldo Green, Ozark and three sisters, Mrs. Clella Amsler, Billings, Mrs. Rossella Colvin, Austin, Tex. and Mrs. Eulamae Haefling, Ozark. The body was cremated with burial to be in Weaver Cemetery near Ozark

Charles "Charlie" Richard High, 76, of Springfield, Mo., went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2007, at 3:40 a.m. after a long battle with COPD and Emphysema. He was born on August 18, 1930, to Agnes Marie Elkins High and Ina High. On June 30, 1951, he married Wilda M. Carroll and to this union five children were born, Charles Robert, James Richard, Wilda Kathleen "Kathy", Joseph Allen and Carrie Ann. Charles was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Springfield City Utilities where he worked as a bus driver for 34 years. Over the years he also worked as a deputy sheriff for the Greene County Sheriff's Department, was a truck driver and in the Marine Reserve. He was active in the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine and the Masonic Lodge in the Springfield area for many years. Precedeing Charlie in death were his parents; one sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Drew; grandson Scotty Allen High; and great-grandson Colton Chase High. Survivors include his wife, Wilda and his five children; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W. State Hwy EE (West Division), Springfield. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 27, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with interment to follow in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Highfill of Ozark received word this week of the death of their son, John Hansel Highfill of San Jose, California, which occurred last Thursday, the result of an accident. He was a garage worker and was overcome by carbon monoxide gas and fell, striking his head. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Ruth Highfill, a daughter, his parents of Ozark, two brothers, Noah of Springfield and Paul of Fresno, California, and five sisters, Mrs. John Appleby of Springfield, Mrs. Bert Hale of O’Fallon, Mrs. Jim Evans of Buffalo, Mrs. Johnson Mustain of Palo, Alto, CA, and Mrs. Jackson Benintendi of Granby. Burial probably will be this week at Springfield.

Edna Pearl Hightman, 92, Ozark, passed away peacefully April 30, 2010, in Ozark Riverview Manor. She was born Feb. 7, 1918, in Carlisle, Iowa, to Oscar and Irene Pearl (Charles) Grim. On Dec. 31, 1961, she was united in marriage to Homer Hightman, in Reno, Nev. Edna was a busy homemaker, dedicated wife, and loving mother to four children. She enjoyed attending Ozark United Methodist Church and traveling with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and husband, Homer. Edna is survived by: Her four children and their spouses, Paul and Peggy Bedwell, of Nixa, Jacqueline and Phil Archer, of Sparta, Leonard and Barbara Bedwell, of Ozark, and Sandra and Herman Fullgrabe, of California; sister, Thelma Thomas; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several other caring relatives. Edna’s wish was to be cremated and her ashes spread at sea with her departed husband, Homer. Arrangements were under the care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.

Marjorie A. Hightower, 46, Sparta, died Aug. 29, 2003, in her home. She was born July 14, 1957, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John and Margie Chopelas. She lived in the Sparta community for the past 14 years where she was a homemaker and mother to her three children. She was preceded in death by her mother on Jan. 10, 2003, and one sister, Jeanne. Hightower is survived by two sons, Weston Baer and Curtis Baker, and one daughter, Alicia Hightower all of the home; two sisters, Patricia Fitzgerald and husband Joe, Chicago, Ill., and Elena Soto and husband Julio, Prospect Heights, Ill.; two brothers, John Chopelas and wife Linda, Bloomingdale, Ill., and Tony Chopelas, Bruner; nieces; nephews; other relatives and caring friends. Services for Marjorie Hightower were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 2, in Barnes Family Home, Ozark, with Father Paul McLoughlin officiating. Burial was in Weaver Cemetery, Ozark.

Mary Florence Hightower, age 60, of Sparta, died Wednesday February 11, 1998 in St. John's Regional Health Center; Springfield. She was born September 15; 1937 and was the daughter of Ernest and Esta (Smith) Moses, She was a graduate of Sparta High School and Draughon's Business College. Mrs. Hightower was a member of Sparta Church of Christ. She was a Home Economist for the University of Missouri Extension Office. Survivors include: Two sons, Carl Hightower and Kevin Hightower and his wife, Brenda, all of Sparta; a granddaughter, Alicia Jean Hightower; three step-grandchildren, Aaron Nimmo, and Brian and Amber Sweet; a step-great-granddaughter, Skye Kay Nimmo; a dear close friend, Keith Robison, Sparta; a niece Vicki Crimp; two nephews, Keith and Sam Moses; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Samuel Arlie Moses. Funeral services were Saturday, February 14, in Adam’s Funeral Home, Ozark, with Greely Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial was in Sparta Cemetery.

Laurie Lee Hignite, answering the call of the angels, departed this world, Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the age of 40. She passed away in her home. She was born September 9, 1969, in Midland, Mich. She was a 1987 graduate of Kickapoo High School, a homemaker, a creative artist and musician. Gone but not forgotten. Her infant son, Steven Glenn Bruce; grandparents, Leon and Mona Hulse; grandparents, David and Elenore Hignite, preceded her in death. She is survived by her life partner of 16 years, Stan Bruce; her two sons, Devin Hignite and Dustin Bruce, all of the home in Willard; her sister, Heather Rice and her husband David of Ashland, Mo.; her mother, Janet Scharitz and her husband Steve of Nixa, Mo.; her adopted father, David Carol Hignite of Kansas City, Mo.; her grandmother, Irene Scharitz of Springfield, Mo.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and friends. Memorial graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the Morrisville Cemetery, Morrisville, Mo. Andrew Jackson Hiles was born Sept. 1, 1863, the son of Andrew and Catherine Hiles. He is survived by one sister, Tinza Johnson and four children, Lois, Hershel, Roscoe and Lloyd, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He passed away on Sept. 21, 1937, aged 74 years and 20 days. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in the Fairview church by Rev. Roy Shipman with burial in the Fairview cemetery under the direction of the Sparta Undertaking Co., Rathbun & Chaffin.

Died At his home near Mansfield, Mo. September 14, 2926, John Hiles, aged 69. The remains were brought overland to the Fairview Baptist church, south of Sparta, by the Lenhart Undertaking Co, of Mansfield. Funeral services were conducted at the church by Rev. Walter W, Brown of Highlandville. He was laid to rest in the Johnson cemetery with a short services at the grave, by the I.O.O.F. of which he was a member.

Lloyd W. Hiles, 87, formerly of Sparta, died Jan. 1 at the Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Services for Mr. Hiles were held Jan. 4 in the Colonial Chapel Neekamp Funeral Home, Bartlesville, with Dr. William Cook officiating. Burial was in Little Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma. Officiating at the graveside services was Rev. Bill Jones. Mr. Hiles' survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Eunice Green, Edmond, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Marion Allen, Bartlesville; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Gilley, Sparta, with whom he had made his home recently; and several nieces and nephews.

Services of Margaret Hiles, 96, Pueblo, Colo., were held March 11 at the Harris Chapel in Ozark with Charles Eakins officiating. Burial was in the Sparta City Cemetery. Mrs. Hiles died March 6 in Four Seasons Nursing Home after a long illness. Mrs. Hiles, a native of Chillicothe, lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving here in 1965. She was a member of Sparta Church of Christ. In 1980, she moved to Colorado to make her home with her daughter-in-law, Freda Hollon. Additional survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lula Lockwood, St. Joseph, and Mrs. Helen Sloan, Kansas City; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Al Hill, age 84, Springfield, died Monday, November 19, 2007. He was born December 1, 1922, in Tehuacana, Texas, the son of William Al and Ruth B. (Potter) Hill. Al served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Nixa. Al was also a member of the Marmaton Masonic Lodge # 245, Moran, Kan. Survivors include his wife, Joan Pittman-Hill, Springfield, Mo.; three children, Mark Hill, Cameron, Mo., Cynthia Jones and husband, Coy, Carl Junction, Mo., and Cathy Tanner and husband, Tom, Tulsa, Okla.; two step-children, Neil Pittman and wife Judy, Springfield, Mo., and Nedra King, Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Bill Hill and wife, Mary Catherine, Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 22 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marvis Jean Hill; a granddaughter, Lori Ann Walker; and three brothers, Joe, J.P., and Ralph Hill. Bettye Allene Hill, 79, Nixa, Formerly of Springfield, died peacefully in her home Friday, February 6, 2009. She was born January 28, 1930 in Marionville, Mo, to Cecil and Naoma Melton. Bettye graduated from Mercy School fo Nursing in 1964. She worked for Dr. James Clauson for many years and then the R-12 school system as a school nurse. Bettye was Queen Mother of the "Rags to Riches" chapter of the Red Hat Society and a member of Bebekah Lodge #72. She had a nurturing and loving heart, especially for children. She was preceded in death by a son Micky Aaron, her parents, a sister, Joyce Barber and an infant brother Micky Bruce. Bettye is survived by her loving husband of sixty two years, Wilmer, three sons and daughters-in-law; Troy and Sharon Hill, Rick and Pat Hill, Steve and Kathy Hill and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hill; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four brothers, five sisters and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Billie Joe Hill, age 75, Sparta, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010. He was born August 4, 1934 in Paris, Texas, the son of Lena Rhoades. Billie served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a flight engineer from 1953 until his retirement in 1979. He then worked for Firestone until his retirement. On December 18, 1976, he married Dorothy Gill. Billie enjoyed fishing and photography. He was a strong family man and Christian. Billie was a member of Sparta First Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Dot Hill, Sparta; his children, Jeff Hill and wife Shawna, California, Michael Hill and wife Pat, West Virginia, Robert Nagel Jr. and wife Robin, Goodhope, Missouri, Lynn Richards and husband Owen, Washington, and Debra Whedbee and husband Kenneth, Ava; a brother, Bobby Hill, California; and two sisters, Jeanette Hill, Wyoming and Carol Struthers, Oregon; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. Billie was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ray Hill. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. D. Murle Hill, 64, left this life to be with his Lord on April 24, 2007, from St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. Murle was preceded in death by his parents, J.O. and Alice Hill; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his sister Alma "Jo" Maples and her husband, Larry, of Nixa, Mo. Murle is also survived by nephews, Lonnie Schreiner of Nixa, Mo., and Garrett Schreiner of St. Louis, Mo.; his niece Holly Gregory, her husband, Alan, and their daughter, Kacie, of Franklin, Ill. He is also survived by nephews, Brian and Clell Maples, Highlandville, Mo., and their families; and Darla Liverpool, St. Robert, Mo., and her family. Murle was born in Chickasha, Okla., on July 11, 1942. The family moved to Texas when Murle was young and remained there until his father's death. Murle and his mother then returned to Oklahoma to live for many years. In 1985, Murle moved to Missouri to be close to his sister and her family. He remained in Missouri until his death. Murle walked the pathway of God's choosing, to the best of his mental capabilities. Lots of valleys, but oh, the mountaintops were glorious for him. Murle's first love was church and everything that goes with that concept; praying, preaching, singing and a better place to live after this life. Murle loved farming and for many years operated John Deere equipment for the local farmers in Gracemont, Okla. Murle enjoyed life always. He had an infectious smile and never met a stranger accepting everyone at as they were. He particularly enjoyed working with others whether it was at the workshop or volunteering in the community. Funeral services will be held in Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Mo., 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, with visitation until 3:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Okla., at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30. A memorial service will also be held in the Nevada Habilitation Center, in Nevada, Mo., at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, with Chaplain Richard Seitz officiating.

Mrs. Eleanor Washam Hill, prominent member of the Clever Methodist Church, died last Thursday at the age of 55 years. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Sunday in the Clever Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Holland, pastor, with burial in the Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of the Wilburn Maples Funeral Home of Clever. Mrs. Hill was born in Billings, and she married Elton Hill in 1909. In 1912 the couple moved to Clever where they have since resided. They had four children, who are survivors; Howard and Ralph of California, Armel of Van Buren, and Lucille of Springfield. Besides the husband and children, survivors include: two sisters, Mrs. Ed Garbee of Billings and Mrs. Roy Hill of McAllen, Texas; one brother, Carl Washam of Los Angeles; step-mother, Mrs. Frances Washam of Billings; two half-sisters, Annie Lourie Washam of Billings and Mrs. Max Tubbs of Joplin; a half brother, John Junior Washam of Los Angeles. Pallbearers at the funeral were Roy Pearce, Cecil Chaney, Albert Bohm, T. Drierer, Worth Wilkins and Everett Solomon. Mrs. Hill has served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, steward, and president of the Women’s Work. She represented her church as a lay delegate at the last annual conference and was a member of the official board at the time of her death.

He was a contractor and  carpenter here for several years. He had been a resident here for two years, coming from Ozark. Survivors include his wife, Grace G. of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Ila Jensen, Ozark; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Peters, Blackwell, Okla. and Mrs. Minnie Reynolds, Molalla, Ore. and one brother, William Hill, Arlington, Calif. Hulen Richard Hill, 75, Nixa, passed away 6:30 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 1996 in Primrose Place Nursing Home, Springfield. Hulen was born April 13, 1921 in Black Rock, AR., the son of Witt and Florence Montgomery Hill. He was a retired carpenter. He was married to Mary Baughman Hill December 5, 1941 in Black Rock. He was a WW II U.S. Army veteran, serving in Europe. He received numerous medals. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leonard Hill, and an infant daughter, Leta Sue Hill. Survivors include his wife, Mary Hill, Nixa; a son, Richard Hill and his wife Carolyn, Nixa; a daughter, Brenda Jahr and husband, Larry, Huntington Beach, Ca.; three brothers, Ray, Imboden, Ar., Leroy, Flint, Mich., and J.W. Services for J. W. Hill, 63, Auburn, Wash., formerly of Clever, were held April 28 in Union Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Wells officiating. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 29 years. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II and had attended the Baptist church. James E. Hill, 79, West Plains, passed away Friday, February 20, 2009, in Select Hospital, Springfield. He was born July 1, 1929, in Huntsville, Alabama, the son of Zeno and Lizzie Hill. On March 27, 1949. He was united in marriage to Mable Barbara Foster in Tyronza, Arkansas. James lived most of his life in East Peoria, Illinois where he was a dedicated employee at Caterpillar, Inc. for forty years. After retirement, he moved to West Plains and resided there for about eight years. James was an outdoorsman who especially delighted in traveling with Mable to Texas, Arizona and Illinois to visit family and friends. James also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force and was a 32nd degree mason. James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mable; two sons, Tim of Springfield and Jim and wife, Sandy, of Low Point, Illinois; six brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren; and other caring relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under the care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.

Ozark friends of James H. Hill were surprised and shocked to learn Friday of the sudden death of Mr. Hill at his home near Billings last Thursday night after a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday. Mr. Hill for four years just past had served the county as judge of the Western district, retiring January 1st. He was about 69 years of age and leaves a widow and four sons and one daughter, all grown and married besides a host of warm friends all over the Western district to mourn his sudden departure

James "Jim" Lee Hill, born June 18, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, was called home on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006. His parents, Hildred and B.L. Hill, and both sets of grandparents preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Kaye Hill. Jim was her best friend and soul mate and will be missed beyond words. Jim has very loving sons and gained two beautiful daughters when Kevin married Tiffany and Brent married Debbie. These unions compounded Jim's joy for life by providing him with seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His sister, Brenda Noah, and her husband, Bill, both of North Carolina, and an aunt, Bobbie Johnson of Lamar, Colorado, and two half-brothers, Freddie and Todd of Oklahoma, also survive Jim. Jim was a gifted and accomplished entrepreneur and pilot. He also had a passion for playing and exploring with long time friend, Bob Plummer. Jim's concern and giving to others was testimony to his love for the Lord and God blessed him with a wonderful family and special friends. Jim had an optimistic view on life that was beyond measure. He lived his life with honor, dignity, respect, compassion, faith and great love. Jim's charisma and genuine interest in those around him allowed him to leave a trail of friends everywhere he went. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 103 Saddlebrook Drive, Saddlebrook, Missouri 65630, next to Bull Creek. Signs will be posted along the road. All family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life. In light of Jim's casual personality, please dress comfortably. A memorial fund has been established to honor Jim's life, in his name, at the Regions Bank, PO Box 489, Ozark, Missouri 65721, and will be used to create a small park surrounded by flowers, a bench and nature, which Jim enjoyed every day of his life.

Funeral services for Mrs. Joan Hill, 31, a former resident of Nixa, who was killed in an auto accident in Laguna Beach, Calif. Wednesday, April 22, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Harris Chapel. The Rev. Roscoe Harding officiated, and burial was in McConnell Cemetery.

Joette (Williams) Hill, 87, Clever, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Christian Health Care, Republic. Mrs. Hill was born September 18, 1920, in Clever, the daughter of Harry Lee and Ethel Elizabeth (Moyer) Williams. She was united in marriage to Ralph Edward Hill on December 18, 1944. She lived in Clever all her life. Joette graduated from Clever High School in 1938, attended Draughons Business College and worked in Springfield, served in the U.S. Naval Reserve Woman's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during World War II, and later worked at Dayco Corp. for 24 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clever, serving in various positions. Joette was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; two brothers, Richard Lee "Dick" Williams and Haldean "Pee Wee" Williams; a sister, Billie Jane Williams; and sister-in-law, Jean Marie (Bennett) Williams. She was survived by two sons, Ralph Hill, Manassas, Virginia, and Dan Hill, Ozark, Missouri; five grandchildren, Ralph Joseph, Daniel, Caroline Bratcher, Patricia and Katrina; a great-grandchild, Dominicus Bratcher; two sisters, Dorothy Jean (Roger) Rainey, Rogersville, and Peggy (Buddy) Hays, Clever; a sister-in-law, Muriel (Jerry) Williams, Springfield; and other relatives and many loving and caring friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Clever, with Rev. George Wisley officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Clever. Burial will follow in Wise Hill Cemetery, Clever. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Juanita Hill, 78, Ozark, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006, in the Ozark Nursing and Care Center. She was born May 18, 1928, in Dryad, Washington, to Jess and Ollie Delena (Howard) Henry. Juanita was first married to Darl L. Roy. She later married J.W. Hill who passed away in 1986. Soon after his death she moved to Missouri. Juanita was a member of the Union Ridge Baptist Church. She had a sweet spirit and a generous heart. Her parents, a sister, Eula Childress, and four brothers, Jesse, Billy, Bobby and baby Jerry Henry also preceded her in death. She is survived by a son and his wife, Dannie Leon and Ann Roy, Granite Falls, Washington; two grandchildren, Ryan and Renee and two great-grandchildren; two stepsons, James William Hill and Kenneth Wayne Hill; two brothers and their wives, Don and JoAnn Henry, Clever, and Gary and Willena Henry, Marionville; two sisters, Anna Roy, K.C. Mo., and Shirley Vaught, Crane; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Meadors Funeral Home, Clever. Burial will follow in Union Ridge Cemetery. Lisa Michelle Getman Hill, 22, and daughter, Samantha Jo Hill, four months. Bradleyville, died Friday, March 12, in an accident near Sparta. Lisa was born September 19, 1970 at Monett. Samantha was born November 21 1992 in Springfield. Survivors include: Lisa's husband and Samantha's father, Robert Hill; Lisa's parents, Leroy Getman, Sparta and Joann Kirby, Springfield; Lisa's children, Robert Kimble Hill Jr. and Melisa Hill; Lisa's sisters, Teresa Grider, Chadwick; and Rhonda Getman, Springfield; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Tuesday at Spokane Cemetery with the Rev-. Joseph Fahl officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Lura Addline Hill, age 79, of Nixa, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2000 in her home. She was born on March 1, 1921 in Drasco, Arkansas, the daughter of John Henry and Alice Janie (DeFoor) Moss. On February 1, 1962 she and Thomas C. Hill were married. Survivors include; two children, Ronald David Hill and his wife, Marilyn, of Nixa, and Tonya Panzica and her husband Dominic, of Rogersville, and three grandchildren, Carmen Panzica, and Joshua and Matt Plank. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 4, 2000 in Adam's Funeral Home in Nixa. Burial followed in the Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield.
