Funeral services for Roxie Hayes 75, Clever will be held Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. Clever Methodist Church with Rev Larry Bohall officiating. Burial will be in the Delaware Cemetery, under direction of Meadors Funeral Home of Clever. Mrs. Hayes died Monday morning in the emergency room of St. John’s Regional Health Center, of an apparent heart attack. She was a lifetime resident of Christian County, attended the Clever Methodist Church, a member of N.S.D.A.R. and the Senior Citizens Center of Clever. She is survived by 2 sons, Bob and Bud both of Clever, 3 daughters, Jo Ann Hayes of Clever, and Susan Compton of Republic; one brother Lloyd W. Pope of Clever; 3 sisters, Alma Gregg, Leta Selk and Jackie Little all of Clever; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Rutherford Berchard Hays was born near Boaz, MO, on May 22, 1879, and departed this life at his home in Republic, MO, on July 22, 1939, at the age of 60 years and two months. On December 10, 1907, he was united in marriage to Lillie May King of Republic. To this union were born six children, Edward, Berchard, Ervin, and Violet all of Republic, MO, Mrs. Rose Spain of Tulsa, OK, and Rev. Purd Hays of Sheldon, MO. Beside his wife and children, he is survived by four grandchildren, two brothers and other relatives and friends to mourn his going. G. Purd Hays, Ozark attorney, is a brother. Funeral services were held at 2 pm in the Republic Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Luther McReynolds, the pastor of the church, with burial in the Evergreen cemetery under the direction of the Wilburn Maples Funeral Home of Clever.

Services for R. B. Hays, 66, a longtime resident of Clever, were Sunday in Meadors Chapel in Republic with the Rev. Frank Gilmore officiating. Burial was in Delaware Cemetery under the direction of Meadors of Clever. Mr. Hays died last Friday in St. John’s a Regional Health Center after a long illness. Mr. Hays was a member of Republic First Baptist Church. He was a past president of the Steam Engine Association. Sally Ann Davis was born April 11, 1851, and died Oct. 1, 1930, aged 79 years, 5 months and 21 days. She was married to G.W. Hayes Dec. 29, 1868. To this union were born seven children, five of whom preceded her in death: Charley, Liza, Minty, Rex and Claude. Those living are Alice Brown and Colbert Hayes. She confessed faith in Christ at the age of 11 years under the preaching of Uncle Tommy Hanks. She lived a consecrated Christian life, until death took her away. She was a good wife, loving mother, and a friend to all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, two children, 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, besides a host of friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 2, 1930, at 2 p.m. in the Highlandville Baptist church by Rev. Steve Bilyeu, with burial in the Highlandville cemetery under the direction of T.B. Chaffin of Ozark.

Mrs. Hayes, a member of Nixa Church of Christ, had lived in Highlandville almost all of her life, She moved to Nixa four years ago. T. Phillip Hayes, 93, Springfield, formerly of Billings, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at Maranatha Village, Springfield. He was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Wichita, Kan., to Timothy Phillip and Maryann (McDonald) Hayes. He was a plumber by trade. Hayes was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Ruby, on May 27, 2000; and daughter Deeann Hayes. He is survived by: two sons and their spouses, Phil and Shirley Hayes, Bull Head City, Ariz., and Jon and Peggy Hayes, Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; caregivers, Avery and Judy Broyles, Springfield; and many friends. Peggy Lorraine Haynes, age 56, of Sparta, joined her husband, Robert, in heaven on Wednesday, August 10, 2005, in her home in Sparta. She was born August 16, 1948, the daughter of Robert and Cora (Thompson) Bailey. Peggy served her country as a Registered Nurse for the U.S. Navy until retirement. She was married to Robert Haynes on January 19, 1974. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2004, as well as her parents. In the past, Peggy served on the Sparta Board of Education. She enjoyed ranching with her husband and children in Sparta. Survivors include: two daughters, Karen Haynes, Sparta, and Sandra Haynes, St. Louis; a sister, Bobbie Irwin, Sparta; a sister-in-law, Annette Kelly, South Hill, Virginia; nieces and nephews, Eleanor Crotser, Aimee Vipond, Jack Forest, David Forest, Julie Hall, and Laura Irwin; great-nieces and great nephew, Holly, Michele, and Nick Zarkadis; and her step-mother, Jessie Bailey. Robert Carter Haynes, age 79, of Sparta, Missouri, passed away from an accident Saturday, December 18, 2004, at his home near Sparta. He was born November 8, 1925, in Christiansburg, Virginia, the son of Fred and Eleanor (Weir) Haynes. Robert grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. On January 19, 1974, he and Peggy Lorraine Bailey were united in marriage. Mr. Haynes retired after 30 years in the military. He served his country both in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II and two tours in Vietnam. After retirement in 1975 from the Navy, he enjoyed raising cattle on his ranch with his wife Peggy and daughters, Karen and Sandra. Survivors include his wife, Peggy; four children, Carol Ann Sloss, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Robert Gary Haynes, Tucson, Arizona, Karen Haynes, Ozark, and Sandra Haynes, St. Louis, Missouri; a grandson, Steven Sloss; a sister, Annette Kelly, Virginia; nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Rod Kelley officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on January 28, in Virginia, at Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors. Bessie May Applegate Hays, 90, Ozark, died Saturday, June 3, 1995. She was born Feb. 20, 1905, in Douglas County, the daughter of the Rev. Joseph Marion and Mary Frances Green Applegate. She was married to Edward L. Hays on Dec. 25, 1945, and they lived for many years in Republic and in Tulsa, Okla., before retiring and returning to Ozark in 1975. She was a homemaker and member of Ozark First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, five sisters, and a grandson, Tommy Hughes. Survivors include one daughter, Alyce Hughes and her husband Norman, three granddaughters, Eyvon Sanders and her husband Marion, Regina “Jeanie” Anderson, and Patty Hughes, all of Ozark; five great-grandchildren, Teresa McCutchen and Kim Dunn, both of Ozark, Jeff Sanders, Sparta, Elisa Anderson, Nixa, and Larry Don Anderson, Aurora, Colo.; six great-great grandchildren, Tyla, Daniel, Kacey, Gage, Tevin and Cara; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Carl E. Hays, 76, of Springdale, Ark., died Nov. 16 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1912 in Ozark, and was the son of G. Purd and Hulda Hays. He was a retired owner of a warehouse in Springdale. He formerly lived in Ozark and was employed as parts manager for a Chevrolet dealership. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Springdale and a member of the Masonic Fraternity and the Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Florence Jenkins Hays of the home; two sons, Patrick Hays of Cullowhee, N.C., and Michael Hays of Springdale, and five grandchildren. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m, Nov. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church in Springdale. Cremation was by Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale. Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, Gladys M. Mrs. Cynthia Ann Hays was born in Christian county on June 15, 1858 and departed this life Nov. 22, 1933, at her home in Webb City. Mrs. Hays was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hancock who preceded her in death several years ago. Mrs. Hays was the mother of nine children, six of whom survive and were at her bedside when death called. They are Mrs. Meta James of Greybull, WY, Mrs. Anna Bell Smith, Mrs. Ellen Paxton, Herman, Mart and Dexter, all of Webb City. The husband and three children preceded her in death three years ago. The deceased joined the Methodist church at Highlandville several years ago. Funeral services were at Webb City, Friday afternoon, Dec. 1, with Rev. Lou Love of Galena, Kansas officiating. Burial was made in the Webb City cemetery. Mrs. Hays is survived by many relatives living in Christian county.

He served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II and was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, Ozark. G. Purd Hays, 86, prominent Ozark resident and former Christian County prosecuting attorney, passed away at his home in Ozark Sunday evening, February 3.
Mr. Hays had been in failing health for the past several years. He was born in Greene county, the son of James and Lucinda Hays. Mr. Hays, who practiced law in Ozark for 55 years following a period of school teaching, served as a state representative in the legislature for several terms. He was a member of the Ozark Baptist church, Masonic lodge, and Modern Woodmen of the World. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. D. Hays; two sons, Gerald P. Hays of Springfield, and Carl Hays of Ozark; a daughter, Mrs. D. A. Schoene of Milan, MO; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Chaffin Funeral Home chapel with Rev. F. R. Wallis of the Second Baptist church in Springfield officiating. Interment was in the Ozark Cemetery.

Helen Snider Hays, age 104, Springfield, died October 24, 2008. She was born October 9, 1904, in Ozark, the daughter of Jacob Allison and Mearl (Graham) Snider. In 1928, Helen was united in marriage to Gerald P. Hays. Survivors include: a daughter, Geraldine Babcock and husband Dick, Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, James Marc Ward and wife Elizabeth and Andrew Hays Ward and wife Patti; two great-grandsons, James Spencer Ward and Samuel West Ward. Helen was a past member of P.E.O. Chapel JL, Springfield. Memorial donations may be sent to the Helen Hays Memorial Fund, The Cambridge, 2900 S. Jefferson, Springfield, MO 65807. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, in Ozark City Cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.

G. Purd Hays received word this past week of the death of his brother, Henry Hays, at Tecumseh, Oklahoma, on Dec. 22, with burial on the 23. He has been ill for some time. He is survived by the widow and three children. Henry was well known in this and Greene counties. He was a carpenter by trade and did much of the finishing work on the Colonial Hotel and Woodruff Building in Springfield. G. Purd was unable to attend the funeral as he was ill last week.

Mrs. Dee Hays, 89, Ozark, died at 7:25 p.m., Monday in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Christian County, Mrs. Hays was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Surviving are two sons, Gerald P. Jefferson City, and Carl E., Springdale, Ark.; a daughter, Mrs. Flo Schoene, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Harris Chapel with Gale Hartley officiating, Burial was in Ozark City Cemetery.

Huston Hays, aged 23 years, son of the late Charles Hays, died at the home of his uncle, John Brown, at 1515 West Chestnut Street, Springfield, Mo. Tuesday night, May 13, 1924. Funeral services were held at the I.O.O.F. cemetery Thursday afternoon. Mr. Brown returned from Colorado last Thursday where he had been for some time making the fight against tuberculosis, but lost the fight as is usual in such cases.

The following account of the death of John T. Hays is furnished by his brother, G. Purd Hays. It is taken from the Boseman, Mont., paper: John Thomas Hays Sr., 67 years, died at his home at 304 South Ninth, March 23, at 3 p.m. from complications of diabetes and high blood pressure from which he had been suffering during the past year. Although he had been ill since last March, Mr. Hays was able to be up and about the house every day until a few hours before his death. Mr. Hays was born in Republic, Mo. Nov. 17, 1867. His public school and business college education was received in Missouri. He later attended the law school of the University of Michigan from which he was graduated with the class of 1891. Returning to Missouri to practice law, he married Miss Mattie Paulsell, a teacher in the public schools at Republic, Mo., in 1898. To this marriage were born seven children, all of whom are living. Making their home at Ozark, Mo., Mr. Hays was elected county attorney of Christian county for two terms. In 1917 the family moved to Red Lodge where Mr. Hays was elected county assessor for one term and county attorney for one term. Five of the Hays children graduated from Red Lodge High School, and in 1927, Mr. Hays decided to move to Bozeman in order to give the children an opportunity to attend college. Two of the children are graduates of M.S.C. They are Glen, agricultural graduate in 1931, who is now with the soil conservation service at Culbertson; and John, chemistry graduate in1932, who was the second Montana State college graduate to receive the honor of being a Rhodes scholar to Oxford university in England, where he now is attending school. Until March, 1936, when he became ill, Mr. Hays was employed by the college in the building service department. Mr. Hays was a member of the Presbyterian church, of the I.O.O.F., the Modern Woodmen of America, and while practicing law was a member of the Montana Bar Association. Survivors are the widow, Mattie Hays, seven children, Raymond A. of Bozeman, Mrs. H.W. (Lillian) Honnold of Black River Falls, Wisc., Glen of Culbertson, Jessie of Helena, Mrs. Harry (Katherine) Noel of Great Falls, John of Oxford, and Dorothy L. of Bozeman; three brothers in Missouri, R.B. and Tillman of Republic and G.P. of Ozark; and four grandchildren, Jimmy and Billy Honnold of Black River Falls and Carol and Harry E. Noel Jr. of Great Falls.

Martin Andrew Hays, 10, Goshen, Ark., died Jan. 6, 1993 at University of Omaha Medical Center. He was born March 22, 1982 at Fayetteville, the son of Mike and Jan Hays. He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, Northwest Arkansas Home School Association, The Awana Club and the Suzuki Music School. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Mike and Susan Hays, Fayetteville, Ark.; his mother and stepfather, Jan and Ken Hargis, Goshen, Ark.; a brother, Matthew Hays; a sister, Jenny Hays; a stepbrother, Nathan McPhail; a stepsister, Kati McPhail; paternal grandmother, Florence Hays, Springdale, Ark., formerly of Ozark. Services were held at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, Ark. Mrs. Mattie (Paulsell) Hayes, 81, a former Ozark resident, died March 26 at Bozeman, Mont, following an illness of four weeks. She was the widow of John T. Hays who died in 1937 and a sister-in-law of the late G. Purd Hays, an Ozark attorney. A sister, Mrs. Minnie Robertson, is included among the survivors.

Gold of Republic and Mrs. Betty McMurry of St. Louis. She was a long and devoted member of the Christian church. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Maples Funeral Home at Clever, conducted by Rev. Frank Eaton of Crane, with burial in the Masonic cemetery at Crane.

Funeral services for Roxie Hays 75, Clever will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Clever Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Bohall officiating. Burial will be in the Delaware Cemetery, under direction of Meadors Funeral Home of Clever. Mrs. Hays died Monday morning in the emergency room of St. John's Regional Health Center of an apparent heart attack. She was a lifetime resident of Christian County, attended the Clever Methodist Church, a member of N.S.D.A.R. and the Senior Citizens Center of Clever. She is survived by 2 sons, Bob and Bud both of Clever, 3 daughters, JoAnn Hays of Clever, Jane Stevens, Crane and Susan Compton of Republic; one brother Lloyd W. Pope, Clever; 3 sisters, Alma Gregg, Leta Selk and Jackie Little all of Clever, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Services are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson. Mr. Hays passed away Nov. 25 at St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield. Russell was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Kansas City, the son of John Franklin Hays and Thelma M. (Jewett) Hays. He attended school in Stanley, Kan. Russell served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a computer operator for International Paper Company. Russell moved to Nixa from Kansas City 15 years ago. Russell is preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma Hays. He is survived by his brother, Richard Hays, Ozark; nephew, John Durwood Hays of Medical Lake, Wash.; niece Rita Brasel, Carlisle, Iowa, and her husband Wayne; and four great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Dec. 4 in the Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Silver Cecil Hays , 58, who died Thursday, January 7, at St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, were held Monday at Johns Chapel near Ash Grove with the Reverend Roy Keith officiating. Mrs. Hayes had lived in the Bradleyville community the past eight years but formerly lived in the Ash Grove and Joplin communities. She was a member of the Carthage Christian Church. Troy James Hays, age 26, of Sparta, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2008. He was born September 7, 1981, in Creve Coeur, the son of James and Ruth (Poddig) Hays. Troy currently taught math, English and P.E. at Bradleyville High School and was a member of MSTA. He had been Senior Class sponsor the past two years. Troy coached the girls varsity basketball and boys varsity baseball teams. He was a member of Whitewater Baptist Church, Patton. Troy enjoyed motorcycles and all sports, especially basketball and baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Troy was especially devoted to his son and girlfriend. A memorial service for Bradleyville girl’s basketball coach Troy Hays will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Bradleyville High School gymnasium. Hays, 26, of Sparta, died Wednesday morning when he was riding in a car heading to school on Missouri 125 ran into the rear of a trash truck. The driver, boy’s basketball coach Bradley Briscoe, 28, suffered serious injuries. Along with coaching, Hays taught junior high math and English. There will be a memorial service from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Patton with Hays’ burial to be Sunday. Memorial donations can be made to the Troy Hays Memorial Fund in care of Legacy Bank, 7509 Highway 14, Sparta, 65753.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Flora Hays of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Lorena Jones of Nixa; Mrs. Murial Maples of Ontario, Calif.; and Mrs. Dessie Durham of Springfield; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, R. Nema Marie Hayter, 94, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, in The Baptist Home, Ozark, Missouri, with her family by her side, following an extended illness. Nema was born near Willard, Mo., and grew up in the Walnut Grove area. After her marriage, she lived in Miller, Mo. for a short time, then moved to Springfield where she was a longtime resident. She was a homemaker and was an inspector for Oberman's Garment Factory during World War II. She was employed with Springfield Grocery Co., in the coffee department. For 21 years, she was employed with with Sears and Company as a salesperson. When Sears moved to the St. Louis location, Nema made all the drapes for the drapery department. Nema was a Christian and a faithful member of First Baptist Church in downtown Springfield. Nema was an expert in crafts and taught crafts in VBS for many years at College Street Baptist Church. Nema Long and John Menan "Jack" Hayter were united in marriage on May 31, 1929. To this union one son was born. Together they were privileged to share over 64 years. Jack preceded her in death on August 31, 1993. Also preceding her were her parents; one brother, Ray Long; and three sisters, Hazel Gum, Dorotha Baland and Blanche Redfearn. She is survived by her son, Jim Hayter and wife, Mildred of Springfield; two granddaughters, Debbie Goodwin and husband, Charles, and Donna Miles and husband, Randy; five great-grandchildren, Becky Hatley and husband, Chris, Brenton Miles and wife, Shelby, Tyler and Ben Goodwin, and Emma Miles; two great-granddaughters, Kenzie and Lilly Hatley; one brother-in-law, Albert Hayter and wife, Bonnie; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, August 30, 2008, in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Springfield, with Rev. Michael Overton officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, west of Walnut Grove, Mo., under the care and direction of Wilson-Brim-Daniel Funeral Home of Ash Grove. Friends may call in the Ash Grove chapel on Friday evening. Saturday morning the family will receive friends in the chapel of First Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until service time. Harry Martin Hayward, Sr., was born near Gilsum, New Hampshire, April 25, 1862, and passed away at his home in Ozark Feb. 13, 1946, following a cerebral hemmorage. He spent the early years of his life on the family farm in New Hampshire and at the age of 17 he moved to the state of Illinois. Following many years of traveling he and his family settled on a farm in southern Missouri and then he and his wife moved to Ozark about two years ago. He was united in marriage on June 11, 1912 to Miss Susie E. Randall and to this union four children were born. The youngest son, Earl, preceded his father in death. When a young man, he was converted and joined the Methodist church and for many years took a very active part in church activities. Surviving are his wife, Susie; two daughters, Alice Hayward of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Julia Valdez of Riverside, Calif.; one son, Harry Hayward, Jr., of Walnut Shade, Mo.; also a son and daughter by a former marriage, both of whom are living in California. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in the Walnut Shade church with burial in the cemetery under direction of the Chaffin Funeral Home of Ozark.

Died at her home in Nixa, Mrs. M. J. Hayward, March 25th, 1906 of kidney disease, She was born in Richland Co. Ohio in the year 1838. She moved to Christian county in the year 1868. Married to Richard Hayward in the year 1878. To them, one son was born. She had been an invalid for about four years. Four days before she died, she had a stroke of paralysis and was unconscious until death. She was a member of the M. E. church of McCauley Chapel, and lived a consistent member until God said you have suffered long enough and come on up higher, then her spirit took its flight. She was one who was always ready to help the needy and to administer to the sick. She fought a good fight and kept the faith, and was ready to part when the message came for her. She bid adieu to all. She was a sister to the Rev. G. R. and J. R. Grubaugh. The funeral services were held at the Richwood cemetery before a large concourse of people who had met to pay the last tribute of respect. She was laid in the silent grave to wait the call of the Angel Gabriel when he shall place one foot on the land, one on the sear and say that time will be no more. She has gone but is hot forgotten. A friend.

Services for Kyle N. Hayworth, 57, Springfield, were held May 29 in Harris Chapel, Ozark with the Rev. Gary Jennings officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Hayworth died May 27 in St. John’s Regional Health Center following a long illness. A former school teacher and high school coach, he was a correctional officer for 13 years and a member of the Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and moved to Springfield from Ozark in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Helen, who is a school teacher in Ozark; a son, Michael D., Poplar Bluff; a daughter, Kathy Hayworth Jones, Columbia; two brothers, Deliano, Lenox, Iowa and Quenton, Weston; and four sisters, Elsie Thompson Hopkins, Crystal McNutt, Diagonal, Iowa, Rebecca Moorehouse, Leavenworth, Kan. and Anita Hayworth, Creston. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Liza Ellen Hayworth was born in Walnut Shade, Taney county, Missouri, September 15, 1871, and passed away at her home near Crane, Missouri on March 22, 1948. She was united in marriage to Alfred M. Hayworth at Ponce de Leon on October 28, 1890 and to this union four children were born. Mrs. Hayworth had spent most of her married life in Stone county and had lived at the family home since 1928. She was a devoted Christian woman and attended regularly the church of her choice. Surviving are Mrs. Everett Parsons of Aurora; Mrs. Orville Williams of Seymour, Clyde Hayworth of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Ernest Hayworth of South Bend, Ind. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Osa church near Crane, conducted by Rev. Efton Blades of Billings. Interment was made in the Marionville cemetery under direction of the Wilburn Maples Funeral Home of Clever.

Mrs. Dova M. Hazel, 79, Springfield, died Dec. 20 in Maranatha Manor after a long illness. Mrs. Hazel, a Nixa native, was a longtime Springfield area resident. She was a member of Broadway and Madison Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jean Whitehead, Springfield and Mrs. Drucilla Williams, Walnut Grove; two brothers, Burl Faught, Springfield and Cletus Faught, Ozark; three sisters, Mrs. Dora Fitzpatrick, Nixa, Mrs. Clara Wright, Springfield and Mrs. Myrtle Cowden, Pendleton, Ore.; five grandchilden and several great grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 22 at Greenlawn Battlefield South Funeral Home with the Rev. Prentice Meador officiating. Burial was in Maple Park Cemetery.

Jim H. Hazel, 83, a former Springfield grocer, and a resident of Ozark for the past four years, died Thursday night in the home of a son, Arthur Hazel, of Ozark. Mr. Hazel was born in Kentucky, but moved to Springfield when he was a young man. He retired from the grocery business five years ago. Besides his son, he is survived by two brothers, Otis E. Hazel of Arkansas, and Walter Hazel of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Reynolds of Aurora; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Ponce de Leon cemetery, southwest of Spokane, Mo. Burial was under the direction of Cheatham of Galena.

Services are 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in Stumpff Funeral Home South, Kimberling City, with burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to the residence of Wayne and Marilyn Tinsley on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Francis Todd H'Doubler, Jr., MD, 85, Springfield, died at 7:45 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in Ozark Riverview Manor, Ozark where he had resided for several months. He was born June 18, 1925 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of the late Francis Todd and Alice L. (Bemis) H'Doubler, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Joan, a sister, Alice H'Doubler and a brother, Charles H'Doubler, MD. Dr. H'Doubler attended Greenwood from Kindergarten through 12th grade. He was president of his senior class and was a member of the football and track team. In December 1942, at the age of 17 he was able to graduate from high school a semester early to enlist in the Navy. When called to active duty in the Navy V-12 program in early 1943, he acquired the nickname "Hogan", derived from the original family name of Hougendoubler. Hogan was assigned to the V-12 training program at Miami University, Oxford Ohio and eventually attended Medical School at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he received his medical degree. Although he received an honorable discharge from the service at the conclusion of WWII, he reenlisted in the Navy as a Lt. J.G. in the Medical Corps. When the Korean Conflict broke out, he volunteered to serve with the Fleet Marines. As a member of the 1st Marine Provisional Brigade, while treating a wounded Marine he received multiple gunshot wounds necessitating his evacuation from Korea. Because of these injuries he received a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster and a Bronze Star. He convalesced at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA and later joined the surgical staff there. Upon discharge from the service, he returned to Springfield to join his father in a practice specializing in surgery. He pioneered Nuclear Medicine in the Ozarks. During the final 25 years of his 53-year medical career, he became active in the practice of Alternative Medicine and performed acupuncture for pain management treatment. Dr. H'Doubler enjoyed an active medical practice and had a wonderful relationship with his patients. He belonged to many professional organizations including the AMA, Missouri State Medical Society, Greene County Medical Society, American Thyroid Society and the American Academy of Alternative Medicine of which he served as president in 1985. Through efforts of the Greene County "Singing Doctors," Hogan and his peers raised half a million dollars for medical school scholarships that continues to support medical students from the Ozarks today. The Singing Doctors performed over a 35-year span and Hogan is best remembered for his musical contribution of playing the ukulele and spoons. Beyond involvement with activities involving the medical community, Dr. H'Doubler was active in a number of civic affairs. He served as President of the Jaycees and received the award for the local Outstanding Young Man of the Year and the Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Jaycees in 1959. He served on the steering committee to establish Wilson's Creek Battlefield Park as it was dedicated in 1961. He served on the YMCA board and was chair of a major fund raising drive, served as chair of the board for Coty College and also served as chair of the Kitchen Alternative Medicine Clinic during the 1990's. Always active and interested in politics, he served as a committeeman and chair of the Greene County Republican Central Committee for several years. He was a 33° mason, member of the order of Constantine, served as Potentate of Abou Ben Adhem Temple in 1968 and was Imperial Potentate of the Shrine of North America in 1980-81. He was also a trustee for the Shriner's Hospitals. Through his association with the Shrine and the medical profession he enjoyed traveling to many interesting places around the world. He was awarded the National Distinguished Alumni Award and the Legion of Honor from Sigma Nu Fraternity in 1980 and was honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award from Greenwood in 1996. Hogan enjoyed golf, handball and hunting at his ranch and was a long time member of Hickory Hills Country Club. Hogan loved his family and fellow man and enjoyed a full and useful life. He strongly believed the Ozarks was the best place in the world to live, practice medicine and raise his family. The family is appreciative of the personal care provided to Hogan and Marie by the staff at Riverview Residential the staff of Riverview Manor in Ozark, and Drs. Lee Godwin, Scott Duff, Rodney Quinn and Randy Halley. He is survived by his wife, Marie; two daughters; Julie Thomas and husband Brad, Highlandville; Sarah Muegge and husband Dave, Springfield; two sons, Kurt H'Doubler and wife Mary Anne, Springfield; and Scott H'Doubler, Marietta, GA; a sister, Louise Nagle, Piedmont, CA; a brother, Peter H'Doubler, MD, Springfield; two grandsons, Brian Muegge and his wife Caroline; and Todd H'Doubler; four granddaughters, Becky and Laurie Thomas, Beth Muegge, and Sally H'Doubler, numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. A special gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 - 3 p.m., with Masonic services following at 3 p.m., on Sunday, November 28, 2010 in J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville.
