Uncle Joel LaFayette McCoy of Highlandville succumbs in truck seat while he and son stop to get a lunch. The community about Highlandville was shocked Tuesday afternoon by the sudden death of Uncle Joel LaFayette McCoy, aged 75, who dropped dead as he started to get out of a truck to get a lunch. Accompanied by his son, Arley, Mr. McCoy was entering Highlandville and they drove up in front of the Fred Schupbach Service Station and Lunch room. The son stopped the truck and got out and had started into the room when his father gave a gasp and fell back in the seat. He was dead when the son reached him. He is survived by four sons and two daughters. Three of the boys live in the vicinity of Highlandville, one in Kansas City, and the two daughters live in Nebraska. Arrangements for the funeral were incomplete as we go to press, awaiting word and arrival of the daughters and son who live away. The funeral will be held under the direction of T.B. Ross Carter with burial in the Highlandville cemetery under the direction of  T.B. Chaffin. For a long, long number of years the subject of this obituary was affectionately known by everyone as Uncle Fate. He was of that old type and style of humankind who believes in a refined brotherhood of man, considering his obligations to his family and his friends as one of the outstanding duties of correct living. Willingly and freely he would answer the call of a friend in need. Active in the affairs of his family and his neighborhood until suddenly claimed by death, Uncle Fate won for himself a reverence and respect which is prized as many highest possession. He was faithful and true in the lesser things of life and the truthfulness and faithfulness so multiplied that he found himself highly esteemed and affectionately called Uncle Fate. His departure came as the warning in the night, like the thunderbolt from the clear sky, passing away suddenly and unexpectedly, but his living had prepared him for such a departure. He will be greatly missed from among his relatives and friends but they will realize that he lived for a purpose which he fulfilled nobly.
