Jacob Matthew Meyer of Mt. Vernon, earned his angel wings while surrounded by those who loved him, on Friday, March 20, 2009, in Children's Mercy Hospital, in Kansas City, Missouri, after a valiant struggle with Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer, he was 2 years old. Jacob was born on May 4, 2006, in Springfield, the son of Jeremy Allen and Candace Lynn (Barrett) Meyer, and loving brother to Curtis and Josie. He was the grandson of paternal grandmother, Judith Kimmons of Springfield; paternal step-grandmother, Shelley Meyer of Battlefield; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Dee Barrett of Mt. Vernon; paternal great-grandparents, Merlin and Yvonne Meyer and Jerry and Berneta Kimmons all of Billings; maternal great-grandparents, Curtis Barrett of Mt. Vernon and Elnora Enlow of Ava, Missouri; and a dear sweet nephew and cousins. His paternal grandfather, Joe Meyer; maternal great-grandmother, Carmeletta Barrett; and maternal great-grandfather, Lloyd Enlow, preceded him in death. Although his life was short it was long in substance. Jacob was not only a patient but also a teacher. Throughout his illness he gave much hope and inspiration to many children and adults, not only in the hospital, but wherever he went. His nurturing sense and infectious smile will be deeply missed by all of whom he knew. A funeral service in Jacob's memory will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, with burial in Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation will also be conducted in First Baptist Church from 6 to 8p.m. on Tuesday, March 24. Mr. Merlin Earl Meyer, age 79, Billings, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield. He was born March 17, 1931 in Fairland, Okla., to Earl T. and Mildred Leona (Packard) Meyer. Merlin was united in marriage to Yvonnie Kasinger June 17, 1955, in Harrison, Ark. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War era, and retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Springfield, Mo. Merlin's parents; a son, Joey Allen Meyer; a 5 years old daughter, Jenny; and a 2 years old great grandson, Jacob, preceded him in death. He is survived by: his wife, Yvonnie; two sons, Jamie Meyer, Billings, Jay Meyer and wife, Laura, Battlefield; a daughter, Melanie McNutt and husband, Steve, Marionville; and a daughter in law, Shelley Meyer, Battlefield; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Derald Meyer, Verona; other relatives and friends. Mrs. Patricia L. (Gardner) Meyer died Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Ozark Riverview Manor nursing home after a long illness. She was born May 24, 1930, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to Samuel and Ina (Montgomery) Gardner; she was 81 years old. A lifelong resident of Springfield, she graduated from Springfield High School. She was married to Robert J. Meyer on December 27, 1951. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and by a son, Matthew Meyer. She is survived by one son, Joseph Meyer, Springfield; two daughters, Marie Cook, St. Louis, and Amelia Mooney, Springfield; five grandchildren, Gretchen Meyer, Nick Meyer, Byron Meyer, David Shaw, and Noah Mooney; and one great grandson, Myles Meyer. Paula May (Groves) Meyer, the daughter of Walter Ray and Eva Kay Mays Groves, was born May 22, 1969. She passed away Monday afternoon Jan. 26, 2009, from injuries involved in an automotive accident. Her age was 39 years, eight months and four days. Paula was born in Springfield and grew up and graduated from Parkview High School in 1987. She was a homemaker and was of the Assembly of God faith. Paula Groves and Ronald J. Meyer were united in marriage on Feb. 13, 2005. She was preceded in death by an infant and a sister Annetta Kay Groves in 1972. She is survived by her husband, Ronald of the home; one daughter, Christina Lakey, of Republic; her mother, Eva Kay Mays, of Springfield; father, Walter Ray Groves, of Stockton; three sisters, Frances Fae and husband Rick Baker of Fair Play, Theresa and husband Charles Mesey, of Springfield, and Eva Marie Davenport; and one brother Troy Davenport, of St. Louis. Services were held on Feb. 2 in Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Ash Grove, with Rev. Don Miller officiating with interment following in Ash Grove Cemetery.

Icy roads blamed in Sparta woman’s death Jan. 26

Ice-covered roads are blamed for the death of a Sparta woman who was killed in a one-vehicle accident Jan. 26 on Spring Hill Road in northern Christian County.
Paula M. Meyer, 39, was a passenger in a 1988 Ford when it lost control on the icy roadway four miles south of Rogersville at 3 p.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report said. She was not wearing a seat belt, the report said.
The vehicle then left the road and struck a tree, injuring three other Sparta residents, the patrol said.
Walter L. Garrison, 40, driver, and passengers, Connie Nelson, 44 and Ronald J. Meyer, age unknown, were transported to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and treated for minor injuries.

Mrs. Ann Meyers passed on May 27, 2008. She was 94 years young. Ann was born and raised in Detroit, Mich. She retired from the Southfield Public School System, Southfield, Mich., in 1976. She and her husband, Harold W. Meyers, moved to Scotts Valley, Calif. in 1981. Ann moved to Missouri in 2000. Ann is survived by her children, William J. Meyers of Valley Center, Calif. and Harold W. Meyers Jr. of Nixa, Mo.; along with their families. Ann will be remembered for her devotion to her family and the ability to make people laugh. She will be missed.

Claude Omer Meyers was born to William and Margaret Meyers Nov. 25, 1885, in Nixa, Mo., and died Dec. 27, 1948, at the age of 63 years. He was a lifelong resident of Missouri. He was united in marriage to Lillian Brown Sept. 10, 1909 and to this union were born five children. One infant son preceded him in death. Survivors include the widow, Lillian, two sons, Carl Meyers of Nixa and Jack Meyers of Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Ionia Deulen of Springfield and Miss Ola Meyers of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Audie Summers and Mae Nickles, both of Springfield; one brother, Roy Meyers of Springfield; two grandchildren, Stephen and Deborah Deulen of Springfield; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Nixa Christian church with Rev. Roscoe Harding officiating. Burial was made in Payne cemetery north of Nixa under direction of the Maples-Harris Funeral Home of Nixa.

Karl A. Meyers, 80, Ozark, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, in Nixa. He was born Jan. 26, 1915, in Nixa, the son of Omer and Lillian Brown Meyers. He retired from Ozark Bank in 1981. He had earlier been employed as bookkeeper for Campbell Motor Company. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Survivors include his former wife, Jenna; two sisters, Ola Meyers and Ionia Deulen, both of Springfield; a brother, Jack Meyers, and his wife, Jane, Springfield; two nephews, Stephen Deulen and Bruce Meyers; six nieces, Debby Foster, Cindy Burrell, Myra Massey, Regina Graves, Muerita Scrivner and Carmen Gross; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Janet and Daryl Mitchell. Melva Meyers, 91, passed away on March 14, 2005, in the Ozark Riverview Manor. "Ducky", as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was born July 13, 1913, to the late Henry and Katie Thompson in Raton, N.M. She was united in marriage to Ed Meyers on April 20, 1930. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening. She was noted for her beautiful smile which always greeted everyone she met. She was a loving caregiver and for many years worked as a volunteer in the nursery at First Christian Church in Carthage, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Meyers; sisters, Vey Barr and Madge Blackwood; and her brother, Jack Thompson. Survivors include daughters, Kathy Kunze, Springfield, Mo., and Bonnie Anderson, Grove, Okla.; four grandchildren, Troy and Bret Anderson, Angela Edmondson and Kory Kunze; three great grandchildren, Noah, Rose, and Isabella Edmondson; one sister, Maxine Blackwood; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. She would have wanted to give thanks to her special girls at Ozark Riverview Manor where she resided the last two and one half years of her life. Ola Doris Meyers, daughter of C.O. Meyers and Lillian Brown Meyers, was born December 1, 1918, in Nixa, Missouri, and died Sunday, September 23, 2007, at 3 p.m. in her home in Springfield. She was employed by the 7-Up Company (the parent company) of St. Louis, Missouri, for 37 1/2 years as a laboratory technician. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Iona (Toni) Deulen; two brothers, baby Lenville and Karl Meyers; and a nephew, Bruce Meyers. She is survived by one brother, Jack Meyers and his wife, Jane, of Springfield; a nephew, Stephen Deulen and his wife, Jennifer, of Springfield; a niece, Cindy Burrell and husband, Steve, of Springfield; a niece, Deborah Foster and husband, Richard, of Battlefield; great-nephew Matt Foster and wife, Angie, of Houston, Texas; great-nephew Chad Foster of Houston, Texas; great-nephew Ryan Burrell of Springfield; and great-niece Sara Burrell of Springfield. One person was instantly killed, another so critically injured he died Monday, a third remains in a doubtful condition in a Springfield hospital while two others sustained painful injuries when two cars met in a head-on collision two miles north of Nixa at 2 o’clock Sunday morning. Bert Maynard, 47, a Nixa carpenter, was instantly killed, the supposition being his neck was broken by the impact. Theodore Meyers, a farmer living near Nixa, died in a Springfield hospital Monday morning. Kenneth Brewer of Galloway remains in a doubtful condition in a Springfield hospital with physicians extending little hope for his recovery. Herman McConnell and Miss Ruth Maynard, both of Nixa, sustained only minor injuries. The cars, according to the report, met head-on about two miles north of Nixa. One car was being driven by McConnell, who was accompanied by Meyers. Brewer was the driver of the other car, in which Maynard and daughter were riding. Funeral services for Maynard were held Monday and Meyers was buried Wednesday.

Mrs. Mae Ellen Mezel, 88, of Sparta died at 10:30 p.m. Monday at the Lakeview Nursing Home at Forsyth. Mrs. Mezel had lived with her several years. She was a member of the Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge at Mulberry, Kan. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters at Milan, Ill. Survivors besides the son include two daughters, Mrs. Mable son, James Mezel, in Sparta, for Fleming Foster, West Branch, Iowa, and Mrs. Josephine M. Beck, Fayetteville, N. C. The family received visitors at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark Wednesday, and the body was taken to Mulberry, Kan. for funeral services and burial today.

Floriene A. Rosier Michalski, 89, Sparta, passed away Thursday, June 12, 1997, in her home. She was born in Elk City, Kansas, February 27, 1908, to Ewing and Nina Brown Rosier. She attended school in Willow Springs and Stockton. She worked in Kansas City during World War II, later transferring to Chicago where she retired from the American Can Company in 1973. She then moved to Sparta, where her home and garden gave her much joy. Preceding her in death were her parents and her sisters, John Sam Rosier and Mary Brown Mitchell. She is survived by: her daughter and husband, Jane Ormsby and Roger Stevens. Boulder, Colorado; one sister, Mrs. Joe Howard of McCracken; three grandchildren, Jo-San Arnold, Cardiff, California and her son, Ethan, John T. Davis and wife, Joliene, Silverthorne, Colorado, and Elizabeth Davis and her son, Dean Gorman, Boulder, Colorado; three nephews, John Mitchell, Springfield, Josh Mitchell, Los Angeles, California, and Mark Mitchell of Stockton; her cousin Ace Rosier, and wife, Agnes, Sun City, Arizona, and many longtime friends and neighbors. Mr. Micham died Dec. 3 in his home following a long illness, He was a member of Fellowship Lighthouse Church at Bruner and was a builder and remodeling carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Wilda; two daughters, Bea Crenshaw, Sparta and June Robinett, Springfield; two sons, Rev., Reggie Micham, Seymour and Emerel Micham, of the home; three stepsons, Dan Tatum, Elkhead, Clint Tatum, Nixa and Rex Tatum, Marionville; two sisters, Leona Watson and Marie Cardin, both of Mountain Grove; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, after a lingering illness. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, southeast of Oldfield. Surviving are her husband, Ernest; a son, Reggie, of the home; and two daughters, Mrs. Bee Crawshaw, Sparta and Mrs. June Robinett, Ozark. Travis Rance Micham, 18, of Ozark, passed away at 4:10 p.m.. Monday, March 9, 1996 in Ozark as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Travis was born July 10, 1977 in Springfield, Mo., the son of Rance and Jan Smith Micham. He was a 1995 graduate of Ozark High School where he excelled and won many awards in industrial arts. He was employed by Ozark Plumbing as a plumber’s apprentice. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed all outdoor sports. He preserved many of his prize catches as a self taught taxidermist. Survivors include: his mother and father. Rance and Jan Micham, Ozark; two brothers, Tyler and Trevor Micham, of the home; paternal grandmother, Shirley Stephens, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; maternal grandmother. Mickesell was ordained into the ministry about the year 1878, and was a minister in the Christian Church until 1924. He was married in 1891. Funeral services were conducted Monday by the Rev. Brenda Kay (Suggs) Middlekauff, the daughter of Harlan Ellis Suggs and Josephine (Hicks) Suggs, was born August 20, 1962, in Mansfield, Mo. Brenda had been missing for three years and was found July 2, 2005, due to a homicide. For the past 20 years, Brenda has been a resident of Bend, Oregon, and was a former resident of Ava, Mo. Brenda was employed by Fred Meyers Dept. Store as a Cashier and in the Nursery Dept. In August 1979, Brenda and Clyde Hill were united in marriage in Mtn. Grove, Mo.; they were married for 20 years and he preceded her in death. Brenda was a Christian and attended Church in Bend, Oregon. Preceding Brenda in death were her father, her husband, and one sister, Patricia Harvey. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, William Nuel and Tellie Ann Hicks, William Ellis and Effie Elizabeth Schofield, and one nephew, Kevin Lee Suggs. Elma Mildred Middleton, 67, Ozark, passed away at 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, in Ozark Riverview Manor Nursing Home. Elma was born January 29, 1908, in Christian County, the daughter of John and Dora Ghan Sellars. She was married to Roy E. Middleton, on Nov. 25, 1936, in Springfield, Mo. She was a retired secretary for the Nixa Public School System, serving for over 20 years. She was a member of the Nixa First Baptist Church, and Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, and three brothers. Survivors include one daughter, Louise Brayfield, several nieces and nephews and six grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, 1995, in Harris, a Cassity Heritage Funeral Home, Nixa, with the Rev. Richard Eakins officiating. Jesse Leo Middleton, age 89, of Nixa, passed away in his home, Monday, June 27, 2005. He was born February 4, 1916, in Taney County, the son of Robert L. and Alta Mae (Gimlin) Middleton. On May 6, 1946, he and Cleva B. Compton were united in marriage. He received salvation at the Jamesville Baptist Church. Leo served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II on all five European Theaters, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant, and receiving the Bronze Star. Throughout his working career he was a farmer, mechanic, and a carpenter. He also served the City of Nixa for 20 years as City Clerk and as City Inspector. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and having his family together. Survivors include his wife, Cleva; five children and their spouses, Kathy and John M. Davis, Olathe, Kan., Robert and Julie Middleton, Hollister, Janice and Terry Kendrick, Nixa, Marlene and John Larson, Walnut Grove, and Jim and Ronda Middleton, Bolivar; 13 grandchildren: John C. Davis and wife, Traci; Kelly Garrison and husband, Darren; Lisa Odom and husband, Bill; Rob Middleton; Jesse Middleton and wife, Penny; Emily Kendrick; Dan Kendrick; John M. Judith Lee “Judy” Middleton, age 65 of Nixa, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008. She was born November 16, 1942 in Jefferson City, the daughter of Ferdinand and Mary (Snyder) Scherer.
Judy had a vibrant personality, an infectious laugh, and was the “life of the party”. She had a lifelong love of horses and had a passion for showing Missouri Fox Trotters. In her younger years she enjoyed water skiing and was a majorette in high school. Judy was devout in her Catholic faith. Survivors include: her two children, Dan Feind and wife Brenda, Nixa, and Julie Middleton, Nixa; two grandchildren, Wesley and Dusty Middleton; her brother, Dan Scherer and wife Pat, Springfield; two nieces, Sandy Mantle, Rogersville and Lisa Eagleburger and husband Rob, Nixa; three great nephews, Beau and Clay Mantle and Cole Eagleburger; special friends, Doug and Jane Montgomery, Tom and Betty Owen, and Rick Quessenberry; and a host of other friends. Ron Middleton, 65, of Highlandville, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010, in a Fort Myers, Fla. hospital from complications of pneumonia caused from the H1N1 flu. He was born on July 29, 1944, in Springfield, Mo., the son of Clarence and Maxine (Cox) Middleton. He graduated from Nixa High School in 1962, and from Southwest Missouri State University in 1968. As a member of ROTC, he served his country for two years following college. Ron was united in marriage to Marcelene McLean on May 10, 1968. He spent 35 years as a residential builder and land developer in the Springfield area, building many notable houses in southwest Missouri. He was a member of the Home Builders' Association, serving a term as president. Ron was an avid fisherman, hunter, and collector of antiques and unique architectural pieces. He was baptized in 1977 and was a faithful member of the Jamesville Church of Christ where he enjoyed a close relationship with his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Marcelene; three loving children and spouses, Michelene Ramsey and husband Rick, Rachelene Tarsney and husband Sean, and McLean Ron Middleton and wife Charity; his six special grandchildren, Olivia and Landers Ramsey, Keegan and Lena Tarsney, and Madelyn and Maddox Middleton; his mother, Maxine Vanderkerhove; two sisters, Lavonne McEntire and husband Bob, and Libbi McCoy and husband Mike; and a host of relatives and special friends. Ron enjoyed good health until 2007 when he was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). He underwent a bone marrow transplant from his sister, Lavonne, in 2008 only for it to fail in 2009. At the time of his death, he was receiving chemotherapy to put the MDS in remission. His next treatment was delayed a week so he could vacation in Florida, a trip that he looked forward to very much. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, February 15, with funeral services Tuesday, February 16, at 10 a.m., in Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Mo. Burial will follow in the Jamesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks at 220 W. Plainview Rd, Springfield, MO 65810.

He was a past Rajah of the Christian County Shrine Club. A former county volunteer deputy, he was awarded a certificate of appreciation for exemplary service in Christian County law enforcement. Carolene Miekley, 68, of Clever, Mo., passed away Saturday, September 2 , 2006, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Clever, Mo., on November 11, 1937, the daughter of Lloyd and Polly Ottendorf, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Clever High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Glenn Miekley in the First Baptist Church in Clever on September 2, 1956. In addition to being a partner on their dairy farm, Carolene was also an active life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Clever. Carolene enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Glenn of Clever; two daughters and their spouses, Glenda and Rick Wampler of Aurora, Debbie and James Gardner of Trenton; five grandchildren, Brittany Wampler and Stephanie Wampler of Aurora, Chris and Andrea Gardner of Clever, Dana Gardner of Marionville, and Brandi Gardner of Trenton; one great-grandson, Coleton Gardner of Clever and many other family and friends. William A. Miekley, 89, Billings, died at 2 a.m. Sunday at his home near Billings. Survivors include a son, Alfred of Clever; five daughters, Mrs. Esther Marlow, Orange, Calif.. Mrs. Mildred Schmill, Camarillo, Calif., Mrs. Harriet Erhard, Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Dorothy Kastendieck and Mrs. Louis Katzur, both of Billings; two brothers, Chris F. and O. F. Miekley, both of Billings; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Bessler, Billings and Mrs. Minnie Baum, 600 East Delmar, Springfield; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday at 3 p.m. in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with the Rev. Carl Bauer officiating. The body was in the church from 1 p.m. Wednesday until time for the service. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery under direction of Cantrell.

Nellie "June" Miekley was born December 28,1938, to C.W. Salchow and Esther (Knott) Salchow of Billings, Missouri. June lost the only battle that she could not win on April 5, 2008, in Cox South with her family by her side. After graduating from Billings High School in 1956, June became a successful dairy farmer for 17 years then moved off the farm and began her career in retail. She retired after 20 years at Dillard's, where she gained loyalty from many co-workers and customers. Her passions in life were spoiling "Muff”, gardening, and going to dinner with two very dear and special friends Shirley and Louise. She also loved movie night with the great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jerry Salchow, all of Billings. She is survived by daughter, Melissa (Miekley) Sanders and husband Duane of Republic; granddaughter Amanda "Muff" Sanders and fiancé Tim Calton of Billings; one sister Jan (Salchow) and husband Paul Coltharp of Springfield; one brother John Salchow and wife Karen of Billings, Mo., and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be given to the perpetual care fund of Smart Cemetery at 391 Smart Rd. Billings, MO 65610 where June was a member of the board. The family would like to say Thank you to Dr. Ruth Grant and her staff at the Hulston Center and the girls at Cox 5-West for making June and family feel so special and cared for. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Meadors Funeral Home in Billings, MO. Private graveside services will be at Smart Cemetery, Billings, MO. Funeral services were held recently at Tallahassee, Fla. For Mrs. Claribel Crain Mignerey, 56. a native of Ozark and a former Springfield resident. Mrs. Mignerey died in the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies Hospital at Oak Ridge, Tenn., following a lengthy illness. Survivors include her husband, Henry Mignerey; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Kay Peterson of Tallahassee; a son, Roger Crain of Ozark; two sisters, Miss Kathleen Lawing and Mrs., C. H. Crowdus, both of Springfield; three brothers, Paul Lawing of Edmonds, Wash; Kenneth Lawing of Borger, Texas; and Charles Lawing of Grove, Okla; and five grandchildren. Burial was at Tallahassee, Fla.

ROGERSVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Florence Mikesell, 70, Myrtle Creek, Ore., a former Rogersville resident. will were 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Hubert Swearengin officiating. Burial was in Danforth Cemetery. Mrs. Mikesell died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in her home after a long illness. Survivors include a son, Ted., Myrtle Creek, Ore.; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Norris and Mrs. Mary Rouse, both of Topeka, Kan., Mrs. Gloria Renyer, Roseburg, Ore. and Mrs. Sheila Esposito, Myrtle Creek, Ore.; three brothers, J. L. Aleshire, Springfield, Alva Aleshire, Nixa and John L. Aleshire, Kansas City; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Ball, Memphis, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
