[Note: Daughter of John Samuel & Lucy Elizabeth (McDaniel) Cornett; sister of Samuel Cornett, father of Martha Jane (Cornett) Brown]

Mrs. Brown’s aunt dies at 103 years. Mrs. Martha Brown received a copy of last week’s Mountain Eagle, published at Whitesburg, Letcher County, Kentucky, which gave the account of the death of her aunt, Mrs. Peggie Polly, aged 103 years, a sister to Mrs. Brown’s father. Aunt Peggie, as she was dearly known by all her relatives and friends, was a Cornett before her marriage and belonging to that large family of Cornetts which settled in that part of Kentucky far back in the beginning of the 19th century. Her grandfather was Captain William Cornett and settled at the mouth of Bull creek, in Letcher county, Kentucky, fresh from the service in the Revolutionary War. Aunt Peggie, often would speak of the details of that struggle for independence as told to her by her grandfather. Mrs. Brown also tells us that she has a cousin 99 years old living in Kentucky, close to where Aunt Peggie lived. The issue of the Mountain Eagle received by Mrs. Brown contained the only picture of her aunt which she possesses.
