Reynolds, Rick "Bear" 1 Apr 1950 - 11 Jul 2006 SN-L 14 Jul 2006

On Tuesday, July 11, 2006, the Don Wessel Honda "family" lost one of our own, Rick D. "Bear" Reynolds. Our sympathy extends to his wife, Kristi, his father, Les, his children Scott, Mark, Marisa and Mandy, and his grandchildren. He loved you all so much! Our sympathy also goes out to all who knew him as a loyal and trusted employee and friend during his 23 year career at Don Wessel Honda. His reputation as a world-class car salesman was only eclipsed by the integrity with which he did his job. His customers became friends and his coworkers became family. So many of you reading this know what I mean. All of us at Don Wessel Honda are so proud of our association with Rick. Our business and our lives are better because of it. He truly loved his job. Our sides split from laughing at his stories. We had to create a "Salesman of the Year" award as he repeatedly was recognized for "Salesman of the Month". We watched him nurture and raise a family. Beyond everything, he shared with us a life of fullness, passion and faith. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 16, and services are 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 17, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Mo. We'll miss you, "Bear"! That's It. The Employees, Customers and Family of Don Wessel Honda

Rhodelander, Tyla  18 May 1962 - 29 Apr 2007 CCH-N 9 May 2007

[Note: need to find first part of story from front page of paper]

He and Letterman met Rhodelander near a cemetery April 28. Rhodelander told the two men she was homeless and the two men helped her carry her personal items and a tent to the wooded area. After setting us her tent. Umphrey said the two talked and listed to music for several hours.

Humphrey said Letter wanted to have sex with Rhodelander and followed her into her tent. After a few minutes, Humphrey said Letterman retrieved a hatchet from outside the tent and struck Rhodelander in the head. He said Letterman later began striking the woman repeatedly. Letterman and Humphrey then left Rhodlander’s body in the tent.

Greene County Medical Examiner performed the autopsy on Rhodelander and determined that she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The probably cause statement goes on to say Letterman walked into the front lobby of Police headquarters May 2 and said he wanted to turn himself in. During questioning, police said Letterman did not want to answer any questions that were directly related to the homicide.

“Aaron said that he would tell his story some day,” the probably cause statement reads, “and/or write a book. Aaron commented that he had a lot to tell.”

Letterman appeared in his arraignment from the Greene County Jail via video monitor and was arraigned on felony charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Bond was set by Judge Mark Fitzsimmons at $500,000, and Letterman had not bonded out as of May 4.

Fitzsimmons attached two special conditions when granting the bond request.

The first, which is typical in bond approach, was to obey all laws and have no weapons in his possession. The second, however, mandates that Letterman have no contact with Humphrey.

A June 11 preliminary hearing was scheduled for Letterman, and he was referred to the Greene County Public Defender’s Office.

Nixa man’s murder trial postponed, again

Chris J. Cluck Headliner News

The Nixa man accused of bludgeoning a woman to death with a hatch in a homeless camp in northeast Springfield is going to wait another eight months for his trial to begin.

Jury selection in the second-degree murder trial of Aaron M. Letterman, 25, was scheduled to begin Nov. 3. However, Greene County Judge Thomas Mountjoy granted a continuance and rescheduled the trial for June 15, 2009.

Mountjoy’s rescheduling marks the third time Letterman has been slated to face jurors in the past year. He was scheduled for a trial previously on July 21 and Nov. 3.

Letterman is charged in the April 28, murder of Tyla Rhodelander, 44, near a cemetery in the2100 block of E. Chestnut Expressway in Springfield.

His uncle, Michael Humphrey reported the crime to police and later admitted he was present when Letterman allegedly committed the crime.

A probably cause statement filed by the Springfield Police Department said Letterman and Humphrey met Rhodelander near a cemetery April 28. Rhodelander told the men she was homeless, and the two men helped her carry her personal items and a tent to the wooded area. After setting up her tent, Humphrey said the two talked and listed to music for several hours.

Humphrey said Letterman wanted to have sex with Rhodelander and followed her into her ten. After a few minutes, Humphrey said Letterman retrieved a hatched from outside the tent and struck Rhodelander in the head. He said Letterman later began striking the woman repeatedly. Letterman and Humphrey then left Rhodelander’s body in the tent.

Greene County Medical Examiner Dr. Douglas Anderson performed an autopsy on Rhodelander and determined she died from blunt force trauma.

The probably cause statement said Letterman walked into the front lobby of police headquarters May 2 and said he wanted to turn himself in. During questioning, police said Letterman did not want to answer any questions that were directly related to the homicide.

“Aaron said that he would tell his story some day,” the probably cause statement reads, “and/or write a book. Aaron commented that he had a lot to tell.”

Letterman is still being held in the Greene County Jail on $500,000 bond.

In memory of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Rhodes, who passed away March 17, 1939, and March 7, 1934. Our dear parents have been taken, Now our hearts are sad and drear; Often we sat by their bedside, Knew the time was drawing near. Now the battle of life is ended, And their work on earth is done; But their memory will be with us. Of the things that they have done. Oh dear parents, how we miss you, No one but us can tell; You are always in our image And thoughts as well. Now a place is vacant in our homes, That can never be filled; There, a mansion is waiting, For the ones we loved so dear. Where no sickness ever enters, Neither sorry or pain; And our departed loved ones, We hope to meet again.

Sadly missed, Children and Grandchildren.
