Rice, Gertrude (Wasson) 21 Jul 1874 - 8 Jun 1918 CCR 21 Jun 1918

[Note: Daughter of John Thomas & Caroline Lucinda (McCullah) Wasson; married 30 Nov 1899 Thad Rice]

Gertrude Wasson Rice, the youngest daughter of John T. and Caroline Wasson was born July 21, 1874 and died June 6, 1918 at 8 o’clock a.m. at her home in Portales, New Mexico, aged 43 years, 10 months and 15 days. She was converted when about 12 years old and joined the Riverdale Congregational church. She was a member of the Portales M. E. church and teacher of the ladies Bible class. She was married to Thad Rice, Nov. 30, 1899. To this union were born two children, John Milton and Robert Wesley, aged 8 and 5 years. She leaves two sisters, five brothers and husband and two children, besides hosts of relatives and friends to mourn her departure, but we weep not as those who have no hope of a reunion in the sweet by and by, for she died as she lad lived, a devoted christian. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. H. Maples and B. Frank West on June 9, at the old home church at Riverdale, Mo.. We laid her mortal remains to rest by the side of father and mother where she had often expressed a desire to be placed there to await the Resurrection. It is hard to give our baby sister up but God knows best, and we feel that all was done for here that skilled physicians and kind and loving friends could do and we feel grateful to the many kind friends of Portales that so willingly assisted in her sickness and dealt. They will be rewarded, May God help us to train the dear little boys as she would have done, is the prayer of  Nan Goddard.

Rice, Ruth (Connet) 1877 -  6 Apr 1901 CCR 18 Apr 1901

[Note: Daughter of Rev. Albert & ? ( ) Connet; married Elbert H. Rice]

Died, at the hospital, Wichita, Kan., Saturday night, April 6th, 1901. Ruth, youngest daughter of Rev. and Mrs. A. Connet, formerly of this county. Ruth had been at the hospital for some time, and by her patience and thoughtfulness of others had endeared herself to the doctors and nurses who called her “the patient woman” and said that “she just might get well.” When quite a child, she joined the Congregational church and we all felt that she was still a sincere, earnest christian, her religion taking on the type of “perpetual sunshine in the soul”. A character pure and beautiful as the lilies of the valley and fragrant as a garden of roses. Although but twenty-three years old when she fell asleep in Jesus to sing the Easter carols with the angels in the heavenly mansions, we are reminded that there is to be a resurrection; that this body sown in corruption will be raised in corruption; a natural body, it will be raised as a spiritual body; that this mortal shall put on immortality; and then shall be brought to pass the saying “Death is swallowing up in victory.” May God comfort the hearts of all her friends, and finally when done with earth, may we meet around the throne on high. Ruth’s father, mother, brother Roy, and husband Elbert Rice, were with her for weeks before the end came. The remains were taken to Cline, Okla, for burial Tuesday, April 9, 1901.

Rice, Ruth (Connet) 1877 -  6 Apr 1901 CCR 18 Apr 1901

Mrs. Ruth Connet Rice, wife of Elbert H, Rice, of Winview, Okla. and daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Albert Connet of Laverne, Okla., all formerly of Riverdale, this county, died March 6 in the hospital in Wichita, Kansas, where she had been for some months for surgical treatment after two years weakness and suffering. Everything that energy and skill could do had been done, but the former vigorous and happy life ceased on this earth for a joyous resurrection of Easter morning in a world where there is no sorrowing. She had been an earnest christian, witness for Christ in her home, the neighborhood, Sunday School and church. Her sufferings had been great, yet not a murmur ever escaped her lips, eliciting from the physicians of the hospital the commendation of being the best patient and making the bravest fight for life of any one in the hospital. She wanted to live, and the skilled physicians were saugine of restoration until near the last. She was fully conscious all the time and when the hour of change and release was at hand, she called the dear ones to her and without a tremor in her voice, talked to them of the sadness of parting but also of the joy of going home and of meeting again, saying “I am no afraid to go, Jesus will take care of me.”
