Rodgers, Gladys Fern (Blades) 1918 - 26 Jul 2008 SN-L 28 Jul 2008

Mrs. Gladys Rodgers It is said that "A smile is the shortest distance between two people." That is the simple reason why Gladys was blessed with such a large circle of friends. Gladys lived 90 years before she went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2008. She was both saved and baptized in Blades Chapel west of Republic. If happiness is contagious, then Gladys was definitely a carrier. Her childhood nickname was "Happy", and that is how she lived her life, spreading cheer everywhere she went. Gladys Blades had the meager start of a tiny premature baby, weighing only 3 pounds. She was born to traveling evangelists, Myrtle (Laney) and Efton Blades. Gladys married Wayne Rodgers and moved to Republic, where she helped him to build more than 100 homes in the area. Her hard work and support was instrumental in their success. Gladys was blessed with a beautiful smile and she was generous to share it, lifting spirits everywhere she went. She never knew an enemy, or even a stranger for that matter. Now her own joy is made complete. She ran the race like a champion, and is even now reaping the reward of eternal life in Heaven. Her cheerful attitude and encouraging words are just two of her many traits that will be sorely missed until we are all reunited in Glory. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her infant son, Jerry Lee; her grandson, Greg; and by her parents Efton and Myrtle Blades. She is survived by her children, Jo Dean and Don Rodgers and Brenda Alexander; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” Psalm 116:15 Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, in Blades Chapel Church, Republic, with Rev. Don Anderson officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Blades Chapel Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, in the church prior to the service In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to Blades Chapel Church. Online condolences may be made at www.meadorsfuneralhome.com.
