Mrs. Eveline Stapp, aged 79 years, died Thursday night, June 14th t the home of her son, Fletcher Stapp, 3 miles north of Nixa. Funeral services were held at the Nixa Christian church Friday afternoon, June 15, conducted by Rev. B. Frank West, followed by burial under direction of the Ozark Undertaking Co., in the Hopedale cemetery, four miles north of Ozark.

Clarence Marion Stapp, 87 of Cameron, Mo., passed away on July 15, 2009. Clarence was born on March 24, 1922 in Plainview, Texas to Clarence, Sr., and Nannie (Legow) Stapp. He was a Mechanical Engineer, served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a longtime, self-employed businessman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rader. Clarence married Bonnie Maple on April 19, 1992. On April 10, 2005, Clarence gave his heart to the Lord. Additional survivors are three daughters, Karin (Roger) Rader, Springfield, Mo., Donna (Paul) Ames, Ozark, Mo., Patti (Steve) Mitchem, Springfield, Mo.; two sons, Steven Stapp and Ted (Cathy) Stapp, Cabool, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Lori Ames, Andy Ames, Caleb Rust, Chad Rader, Josh Rust, Shannon Rader Harman, Erica Rust Rosenbaum; seven great-grandchildren, and Dorothy Stapp, the mother of his five children. Inurnment and military services are at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Springer Chapel Cemetery, Gilman City, Mo. Fletcher Patton Stapp was born Dec. 19, 1869, and departed this life Sept. 15, 1932, at the Greene County Sanitarium at Springfield, Mo., at the age of 62 years, 8 months, and 26 days. He united with the Christian church at Branch, Ark., when a young man. He was married to Naomi Patterson at Fort Townsend, Okla. To this union four children were born, two dying in infancy. His wife passed away in 1913. The two daughters surviving are Mrs. Exie Donaldson of Ontario, Calif., and Mrs. Virgie Bench of Rogersville. Two brothers, Marion A. Stapp of Ozark and Chester Stapp of Chicago also survive. Funeral services were conducted at the Hopedale church on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Ross Carter with burial in the Hopedale cemetery under the direction of T.B. Chaffin.

Freda M. Stapp, 56, Rogersville, Mo., died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004, in her home. The daughter of David and Mary Myers, she was born July 20, 1948, in Greene County, Mo. Freda was a member of Full Gospel Church. She was a former employee of FASCO in Ozark. She was preceded in death by her father David and a brother, Eddie Myers. She is survived by one daughter, Dana Stapp, of Rogersville rural route; two brothers, Doyle Myers and Tommy Myers, of Rogersville; her mother, Mary J. Myers, Ozark, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Tessa Daugherty, Rogersville, Mo. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, in Holland Cemetery, with Sue Warner officiating. A Webster County native, he was minister of several area churches, He was currently serving Highlandville First Baptist Church. A World War II veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 306 at Seymour. Survivors include his wife, Carmen; three sons, Melvin, Billings, Rickie, Jefferson City, and Michael, Branson; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Harper, Ash Grove, and seven grandchildren. Pauline Alma Stapp, 86. Bruner, died Wednesday, July 22, in Cox Medical Center North, Springfield. She was born July 17, 1906, in Bruner, the daughter of Jesse David McDonald and Flora Gertrude McDonald. She was a lifelong resident of the Bruner area. She became a member of the Church of Christ in 1920. On May 1, 1922, she was married to Segial Ernest Stapp, who preceded her in death in 1948. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Dolly Stapp, Bruner; a daughter, Lucille Pogue, Sparta; six grandchildren, Wanda Owens, Bruner (with whom Mrs. Stapp lived), Rita Stafford, Jody Highfill, and Keith Stapp, all of Bruner, Donna Phillips, Greeley, Colo., and Jimmy Pogue, Selmore; 14 great-grandchildren, two of whom were raised in the home, Tim and Faye Pogue; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Services were held Sunday, July 26, in Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Thompson officiating. Burial was in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Reggie James "Stirrup" Stapp, age 62, of Bruner, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 1999 in Cox Medical Center, Springfield. He was born August 22, 1936 in Bruner and was the son of Seigal "Ernest" and Alma Pauline (McDonald) Stapp. On September 21, 1956 he and Holyace "Dolly" McHaffie were married. Reggie was a member of Fellowship Lighthouse Church. Survivors include: his wife, Dolly; three children, Rita Diane Stafford and her husband, Jack, and Retha "Jody" Highfill, all of Bruner, and Donald Keith Stapp and his wife, Faith, Clever; seven grandchildren, Reanna, Jeffrey, and Dustin Stafford, Darla, James and Jerry Highfill, and LaToya Stapp; a sister, Lucille Pogue, Sparta; nieces; nephews; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife's parents, Holly and Louisa McHaffie, and a brother-in-law, Glen McHaffie. Reggie was a gentle Christian husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A simple country boy, and hard worker He loved his family. He was an avid Bible reader and faithfully attended church. His life was a witness of the love that he possessed for his Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ. For those that loved him, his sixty-two years were not nearly enough. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. He rests in the arms of God. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11,1999, in Fellowship Lighthouse Church, Bruner with Rev. An estimated crowd of over 900 friends and relatives attended funeral services held Sunday afternoon for Sgt. Gaylord W. Stark in the Billings school auditorium. Sgt. Stark met his death in the Korean fighting on March 19, 1951. Rev. Lowell E. McFall, pastor of the Billings Baptist church was the officiating minister. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by the Billings American Legion Post and by personnel from Ft. Leonard Wood. Burial was made in the Odd Fellow cemetery in Marionville, under direction of the Harris Funeral Home of Billings.

Reno Clifford Stark, 70, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, at 2:04 a.m. in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield. Reno, the son of R.C. and Naomi (Stapleton) Stark, was born Monday, August 19, 1929, in Petersburg, Texas. He lived in Corpus Christi, Texas from 1933, until entering the Korean War as a member of the Armored Tank Division from December 1950 to November 1952. Mr. Stark moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1968. He was an Operator for Atlantic Richfield, retiring in 1987, and moving to Ava, Missouri. In 1993, he and his wife, Jeane, moved to the Nixa area. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed travel and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Billie. Reno is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jeane, whom he married on April 19, 1968, in Amarillo, Texas. Also surviving are his stepdaughter, Mykie Hill and her husband, Eddie, Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, Scott Hill, Jacksonville, Florida; Tracey Hill, Lenexa, Kansas; and Curtis and Gayle Hill, and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Hill, all of Dallas, Texas. Funeral services was held at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Harris Funeral Home, Nixa, with Reverend Darrell Hinds officiating. Cremation will be at a later date under the direction of Harris Funeral Home, Nixa. Visitation was from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, in the funeral home.

He was born June 27, 1941 in Grove Springs, the son of Virgil and Fay Adams Starnes. He was united in marriage to Roxie Braden Oct. 21, 1962. They have lived in Springfield for the past 26 years, previously in Kansas City. He spent 21 years as an iron worker constructing metal buildings. He loved fishing, his horses and spending time with his family and friends and on his acreage near his childhood home. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lester, and his grandparents. Donald Doss Starnes, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield. He was born July 7, 1926, in Lebanon, the third child of Homer Roy and Florence Adaline (Snyder) Starnes. He attended Independence and Cook schools and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1944. Starnes served in the U.S. Navy from 1944–1946. On May 12, 1947, he married Darlene Broyles. They had one son, Steve, and 64 happy years before Donald’s passing. He enjoyed preaching the gospel, genealogy and writing. Starnes was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Republic. Starnes’ parents; brother Warren Starnes; brother-in-law Eddy Vincent, and a small sister at the age of four, preceded him in death. He is survived by: wife Darlene, of the home; son Steve and his wife Lesley, Republic; two granddaughters and their husbands, Stephanie and Adam Smith, and Melissa and Chris Bates, three great-grandchildren; sister Kathryn Vincent; sister-in-law Ruth Starnes; three nephews; other relatives and many friends. She married Paul Starnes in Miami, Oklahoma December 31, 1957. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Wendy Starnes and Valerie Hebenstreit; parents, Harold and Marie Miller; and sister, Jeannie Miller. Lucy Starnes, 95, Ozark, died Sunday, July 21, 1996, in Ozark Riverview Manor. She was born September 6, 1900 in Bolivar and was the daughter of John and Lauria (Roomsburg) Logan. In 1925 she was united in marriage to Leeroy Earl Starnes who preceded her in death in 1977 as well as a four-year-old son, Earnie Ray Starnes. She had been a resident of Ozark for many years. She was saved and baptized in the Highlandville Assembly of God Church in 1980 and had attended the Sparta Assembly of God Church. Survivors include: eleven children, Ruby Moreland, Monett, LaVern Clark, Phoenix, Arizona, Marie Garner, Ozark, Ann Frazier, Steelville, Missouri, John Starnes, Seymour, Georgia Vickers, Pasadena, Texas, Robert Starnes, Ash Grove, Dorothy Beggs, Springfield, Jewell Relph, Trenton, Nebraska, Warren Starnes, Ozark, and Connie Fintel, Chadwick; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A former resident of Atlantic, Iowa, he was a retired building contractor and ready mix concrete company. He had been a superintendent of schools in Yorktown, Iowa for many years. A member of the Masonic Lodge, he was also a Shriner. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. LaPerche Peasley of Davenport, Iowa and Mrs. Lola Snowden of Independence. the body has been transferred by Harris of Nixa to a funeral home in Atlantic, Iowa for services.

Ralph Alan Stauffacher, 77, Bolivar, was born to Walter and Vee Stauffacher on June 13, 1930, near Humansville, Mo. His wish to go home from the hospital was granted and he peacefully passed away there May 29, 2008, due to declining health. He married Virginia Lee Nottingham October 26, 1952, at the Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Dunnegan, with Rev. Lewis Mead officiating. A lifelong resident of the Humansville and Dunnegan area, he enjoyed his occupation of farming and gardening. He was an accomplished fisherman; white catfish was his favorite catch. Ralph was skilled in creating many beautiful latch hook rugs for his family and friends. Ralph was saved at a young age and was a charter member of the Dunnegan Community Bible Church. He was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years at the well-loved Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. His parents; one brother, Paul (his hero); and a baby sister, Lynette, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; four daughters and their husbands, Cathy and John Adams, Ozark, Jeanne and Steven Robinson, Republic, Janelle and Mark Stewart, Republic and Shirley and Russ Tummons, Louisiana; one son and his wife, Alan and Gayla Stauffacher, Camdenton; 11 grandchildren, David Adams, Tammy Walton, Jared Robinson, Audra Bowling, Ashley Robinson, Autumn Robinson, Melissa Stewart, Adam Stewart, Robert Tummons, Stephanie Tummons and Tori Stauffacher; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Adams, Valerie Adams and Dakota Walton; two sisters, Margie Stoll and husband, Everett, Overland Park, Kan. and Ruby Sneed, Sparta, Mo.; one brother, Casper Stauffacher and wife, Jane, Gary, Texas; and several nieces and nephews who all loved him very much. She was born August 11, 1918, in Chester, Nebraska, the daughter of George and Mae (Apperle) Duey. She was united in marriage to Elton Steadman who preceded her in death. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville, and was active in the Vietnam Veterans of America in St. Joseph. Survivors include: three sons and their wives, Charles and Betty Steadman, Independence, Gene and Doris Steadman, Ozark, and David and Gail Steadman, Ozark; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Davis, Fair Fax, MO; nieces and nephews. John was born October 29, 1929 in St. Louis, Mo. the son of John J. and Marie Thelma Knott Steel. John was married to Barbara Miller, March 9, 1954, in East St. Louis, Mo. John and Barbara previously lived in St. Louis where John was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1989 after 20 years of service. John was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving his country in the Korean Conflict. He was an avid outdoor sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his father, John J. Steel, in 1979. Survivors include: his wife, Barbara, of the home; two sons, Jerry Steel and his wife, Sharon, Conway, Mo., and Thomas Steel and his wife Mary, Union, Mo.; one daughter, Julie Standly and her husband, Mike, Hillsboro, Mo.; his mother, Marie Steel, Ozark; two brothers, Joseph Steel and his wife, Juanita, Ozark; and John Steel and his wife, Kathy, of Arnold, Mo.; two sisters, Joan Hoffman and her husband, Herb, and Janice Drapp, both of St. Louis; and six grandchildren, Melissa, Eric, Madison, Brian, Anna and Katherine. She was united in marriage to John J. Steel on February 1, 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John J. Steel, a son; John Steel and a grandson, John Masterson. She was survived by her children, a daughter Joan and her husband Herbert Hoffman of St. Louis, MO, and a son, Joe and his wife Juanita of Ozark, MO., and a daughter Janice Drapp of Fenton, MO, and a son John and his wife Kathy of Arnold, MO, and 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. Marie volunteered for 30 years with Marine Mothers at Jefferson Barracks Hospitals. A native of Stone County, Mr. Steele moved to North Hollywood, California in 1936, where he worked in production for Columbia Pictures in Burbank, California for 46 years. He was a member of the Studio Union Local 727, and was a Union Steward. He moved to Nixa in 1979. Mr. Chester L. Steele, 70, Highlandville, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Elfindale Manor, Springfield, with family at his side. He was born July 5, 1938 in Hurley, Missouri, the son of Finis and Logie Steele (Teague). Chester graduated from Crane High School in 1956 with numerous basketball records. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he worked many jobs in the construction industry. Most memorable, a heavy equipment operator on the Alaska Pipeline. Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; his father, Finis; a son, Matthew; and most recently, his loving mother, Logie A. Teague. Those who survive him are a sister, Sharon, and her husband Rod Cannedy, Clever; a son, Mark Steele and his wife Nancy; a grandson, Tyler Steele; granddaughters, Amber and Britney Steele; great grandson, Noah Lee Steele, all of Springfield; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. His greatest enjoyment was his family and he will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Donald W. Steele, 75, Crane, Mo., was born July 20, 1931, in Stone County, Mo., to John and Willie Dean (Metcalf) Steele, and departed this life April 28, 2007, in his home in Crane. Donnie was married to Barbara Raper on January 2, 1954, and they enjoyed 53 years together. He had worked for Ford Motor Company in Kansas City, Mo., for a few years and Gene Robertson Chevrolet in Crane. Donnie retired from Master-Jackson Paving Company, having worked there for 28 years. He had served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post # 5686 in Billings, Mo. He was a member of the Crane Church of God and had attended the Hurley Baptist Church in recent years. Donnie enjoyed spending holidays camping with his family on the James River and many winter nights gigging. He loved to quail hunt and later in life, he enjoyed deer hunting. Donnie spent many hours in his garden, wanting everyone to enjoy the fresh vegetables he grew there. He loved to watch his grandchildren play T-ball, baseball, basketball and volleyball. There are many great memories of making apple cider, four wheeler rides, potato digging and cutting wood. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; step-mother, Joan Steele of Crane; son Bruce Steele and wife, Debra, of Crane; two daughters, Sheila Moreland and husband, Gary, of Crane, and Jennifer Vanderhoof and husband, Marty, of Marionville; two brothers, Jack Steele and wife Teresa, of Greenwood, and Eddie Steele of Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Janice Barton and husband, Bill, of Sedalia, Mo., and Kay Bequette and husband, Len, of Marionville; two half-brothers, Harold Steele and his wife, Leann, and Gary Steele and wife, Sandy, all of Crane; eight grandchildren, Gretchen Glossip and husband, Michael, of Crane, Johnna Jennings and husband, Shane, of Hurley, Briceton Vanderhoof of Marionville, Brian Moreland, Mary Kaala Moreland, Houston Steele, Kelsey Steele and Seth Steele, all of Crane; four great-grandchildren, Emma and Dylan Glossip and Mariah and Racee Jennings; numerous other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be May 1, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the Hurley Baptist Church, Hurley, Mo. Burial will be in the Crane Community Cemetery, under the care of Westrip Funeral Home, Crane. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, April 30, 2007, in the funeral home.

Mrs. Elizabeth Laura Steele, 84, died in her home at Hartville Sunday afternoon after a long illness. Mrs. Steele, who was the mother-in-law of Arthur M. Curtis was born in Tennessee and moved to St. James when a small girl. Shortly afterward, she came with her family to Norwood where she had lived many years. One of the oldest settlers in the community, Mrs. Steele had been present at the battle of Norwood and was a member of the Presbyterian church near her home . One of her friends who grew up in the same community with her, the Rev. J.A. Russell, a Presbyterian minister of Phillipsburg, will have charge of the funeral services. She was the widow of E.C. Steele, who died in 1901 and after the death of her son Erban C. Steele in 1928, she gave the cemetery at Hartville in memory of him. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Curtis of Springfield and Miss Opal Steele of the home, a son, Howe Steele of 610 South Florence Avenue; a brother-in-law, J.H. Steele of the home and a brother, Joe Austin of Anadarko, OK. Funeral services were held at four o’clock Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in the Steele Memorial Cemetery.

Erma (Farthing) Steele, 90, died July 26, 2003, in The Baptist Home, Ozark. Survivors include her son, Rex Farthing and wife Nadine; a daughter, Marilyn Stewart and husband Ed; four grandchildren, Kevin Farthing, Karen Carmichael, Lori Vinson, and Greg Stewart; and six great-grandchildren. Erma was a founding member of Fremont Hills Baptist Church. A graveside funeral was at 10 a.m. July 29, at McCracken Cemetery, east of Ozark.

Evelyn L. Steele, 79, Brookline, died at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2002 in Christian Health Care, Republic. She was born October 11, 1922 in Axtel, Kan., the daughter of Roy and Nina (Carver) Torrence. Mrs. Steele was a 4th and 5th grade teacher in the Springfield Public School for 30 years and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Battlefield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Edward Steele July 25, 2000; a daughter, Barbara Frazier, August 18, 1999; and her parents. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Ted and Alison Steele, Brookline, and Steve and Debbie Steele, Republic; a daughter, Linda Hembree, Brookline; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Nila Jean Gale, Springfield, Colo. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002 in Manley Cemetery, Battlefield, with Rev. Jim Schudy officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Everett Steele, 88, of Nixa, died at[ 2:38 p.m. Nov. 6 at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield. Services for Mr. Steele were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Nixa, with the Revs. Benny Gard and Richard Eakins officiating. Burial was in the Payne Cemetery, near Nixa, and was under the direction of Harris Funeral l Home, Nixa. Mr. Steele, a longtime resident of the Nixa community, was a member of the First Baptist Chinch of Nixa, and was a retired carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Theatre. He held membership in the Nixa American Legion Post 434. Mr. Steel's survivors include one stepson, the Rev. Fred Nimmo, Pasco, Washington, two step-grandsons; one step great-grandson; four foster sisters, Mrs. Leota Harding, Nixa, Mrs. Ruth Albrecht, Billings, Mrs. Lorene Murray, Springfield, and Mrs. Rosale Carter, Nixa; and three half-sisters, Mrs. Emma Ortman, Stockton, California, Mrs. Tilda Sparkman, Battlefield, and Mrs. Dorothy Arndt, Highlandville.
