Double Homicide Near Billings Drug Related
January 2 southwest of Billings, Charles Crowley of Nixa found the two bodies of Jim R. Sullivan, 44, and Cheryl Lynn Osborn, 28, in separate outbuildings on a farm. Crowley was helping the couple build a house and found the bodies when he arrived for work. He immediately called the Christian County Sheriff’s Department.
Both had died of multiple gunshot wounds, and were laying on their backs in two red metal barns on the 20-acre farm owned by one of the victims. Christian County Sheriff Dwight McNiel described the double homicide as purely as assassination.
Autopsy results showed that two guns, a shotgun and handgun, were used on the victims. The autopsy was performed by a staff pathologist at St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield.
Drugs and chemicals were found on the site. McNiel said they also found quite a bit of money. both on and around the victims, so robbery was clearly not the motive. A large quantity of drugs, paraphernalia and chemicals used in processing drugs were found on the farm. McNiel speculated that the chemical items used in the manufacturing of drugs were stored there.
The deaths were attributed to being possibly drug related.
Several guns were also found on the farm.
Sullivan and Osborn were both known by the Special Investigation Unit of the Springfield Police Department, but it is not known whether they were under investigation.
Officers from the Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and SIU were on the scene most of the day last Thursday investigating the double homicide.
Sheriff McNiel said Tuesday that there were no new developments in the case, and the investigation continues.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the murder of Michael Lee Sparks whose body was found December 22 in the James River. The 33-year-old Manila, Arkansas, man had been shot three times in the chest.
