Sutton, Elizabeth Jane (Ulrich) 3 Oct 1848 - 13 Mar 1934 CCR 22 Mar 1934 p5

Elizabeth Ulrich Sutton was born Oct. 3, 1848, and departed this life March 13, 1934, at the age of 85 years, 5 months, 10 days. At that age of 18 years she was united in marriage to John G. Sutton, who preceded her in death more than 23 years ago. To this union nine children were born: C.D. and C.C. Sutton and Mrs. Mary Bell of Huntsville, Ark., Mrs. Maude Smith, Adona, Ark., Mrs. Carrie McVeigh, Mrs. Grace Wade and Mrs. Ethel White of Ozark, Mo., who are now living and John B. Sutton and Lovilla Sutton, who preceded their mother in death. Besides the children she is survived by 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, also five brothers. Mother Sutton was a devout Christian, having made a confession of faith early in life, uniting with the Methodist church. Funeral services were conducted March 15 at Huntsville, Ark., at 1:30 p.m. by the same minister who made the funeral talk for Mr. Sutton 23 years ago. Burial was there under T.B. Chaffin. We have often heard the subject of this obituary referred to as Grandma Sutton, and although we never had the pleasure of making her acquaintance, yet others of our family had had many opportunities of knowing her. She was another type of the old school whose friendship was deep-seated and whose sociability and congenial disposition were rooted sincerely. A great lover of flowers, her home and her loved ones, which characteristics had that decided influence of sweetening her life with a personality with magnetic tendency.

Swadley, Suzan Alice 28 Mar 1969 - 18 Jul 2007 SN-L 21 Jul 2007

[Note: Daughter of Sandy Roby; adopted by Rev. Paul & Betty Swadley]

Suzan Alice Swadley was born March 28, 1969, in Kansas City, Missouri, to a 15 year old girl named Sandy Roby. Through the Missouri Baptist Children's Home, on April 24 of that year, Rev. Paul and Betty Swadley adopted her, loved her as their own, and raised her as the baby sister of John, who was then eight years old and Mark, who was five. She became a Christian at a young age and her daddy baptized her into South Haven Baptist Church, where he was then pastor. She attended Horace Mann Elementary, Cherokee Middle School and graduated from Kickapoo High School, where she was well known because of her work in high school musicals - "The King and I," "Anything Goes," and her senior year she starred as Golda in "Fiddler on the Roof." She was very close to Mrs. Connie Bilyeu, her vocal music teacher, and that bond with the Bilyeu family continued throughout her adult life. Suzan received a certificate from International Travel Academy, and worked for a time as a flight attendant for American Airlines. She spent her last years working for National-Alamo Car Rental Agency at Kansas City International Airport. She loved horses, especially a Kansas City race horse named Perfect Drift. She spent her last day on earth, July 18, in the new condo she had just purchased two months ago with her beloved Shar-pei dog, Bouvier. She will be sorely missed by her parents, Rev. Paul and Betty Swadley; her brothers and their families: Dr. John and Sheri Swadley, Kristen and Andrew of Joplin, Missouri, and Rev. Mark and Beth Swadley, Christina and Olivia of Paducah, Kentucky; a host of Swadley family aunts, uncles and cousins; and her best friend, Kristi Day Hutto of Nixa. Her short life was blemished by bouts of acute depression and emotional illnesses, so her family was not surprised when she took her own life, but she brought far more joy than sorrow to those who knew her and loved her the most. Her parents would like to express gratitude to all those who tried to help her and to those who ministered to them following her death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home or South Haven Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at South Haven Baptist Church on Monday at 2 p.m. with visitation prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn South.
